We just heard from my MIL that dh's brother and wife don't have anything ready for their new baby, which is due 5/22. Wanna know why? Because they were assuming that we would send them everything we still had from ds! First of all, I got rid of all baby clothes and accessories over a year ago (ds is now almost 2). Secondly, don't you think maybe they should have checked with us about this?! Even if I did still have stuff, I would have needed to know that they wanted it! And get this, they wanted the crib from ds also. Hello, he is still sleeping in it! What were they thinking?! Plus, they live in TN, was I supposed to pay to mail all this stuff to them? AAAARRRGGH!

Sorry, just had to vent about this. Thanks for letting me!

Wow - that's crazy. Even if they lived next door - CRAZY!!

Talk about entitlement issues... why do some people think they're entitled to other peoples things? I just don't get it.

Exactly! And its not like they are hurting for money. She has some kind of government job that pays around $100,000/yr. He also works at a really good job. They're just cheap, selfish people! And I mean cheap, not frugal!!!

They didn't have a shower b/c she had 4 miscarriages last year, and was worried this one wouldn't make it to full term either. I think in the last month though they would have thought to go out and buy stuff at that point!!!

I make it a practice to completely ignore third party messages (aka: gossip). It is MIL's opinion as to how much BIL/SIL have prepared and it her opinion as to what they expect from you. My recommendation is to act like you didn't hear MIL's message at all. BIL/SIL are adult enough to hold down well paying jobs. I'm going to assume they are adult enough to provide for this baby. It is quite possible that, due to the miscarriages, they simply chose not to share with MIL some of the details. Or they haven't prepared at all, in which case they will figure out what they need when the baby arrives.

I have a couple family members who were like this in the past year. One told me she was ready for my hand me downs and we had never discussed it before.
