I went to Labor and Delivery last night with horrible pains and contractions. They gave me something to stop the contractions. The Dr also gave me a prescription for Brethine. I looked it up and I dont like what I read. It isnt FDA approved for pregnancy. I was wonder if anyone as taken this while pregnant. I havent yet talked to the Dr about it. I will in the morning.

I took it! I took it every 4 hours for the last two weeks of my pregnancy I was in the hospital with Placenta Previa. Its also known as Terbuterline. It makes you shake really bad exspecially if you get a shot of it. I got shots the first few days and then they switched me to the pills. It can speed up the babys heart beat some.

I am not a doctor but I am guessing that they want you to take it so you won't go in to labor. Because at how far along you are your baby's lungs are more than likely not fully delvoped yet and they are trying to have him or her stay in longer so they can grow and have less breathing issues. I wanted to also point out that they wouldnt give you something that would be "harmful" to your baby for liability reasons I went to two different hospitals( one was my own and the other was where my specialist was) when I was pregnant with Noah and both of them gave me a shot of the stuff.

I took it during my two pgs. It was orginially created for asthma but it works for stopping labor. Kinda like viagra was created for heart disease but worked for something else instead. Don't stress out over it and know that it is a great standard treatment for stopping labor.

Yep I agree! It works wonderfully! If I would of gone in to labor it would of been fatal for Noah because the cord was down there too and I would of bleed alot and probally would of bled out. That is the main reason I was in the hospital the last two weeks because I passed a huge blood clot and I didnt wanna take any chances.Cause if it came down to it would of had an emergency c-section. The only time I had contractions was when they were going to switch me to something else and they were late. Noah was born perfect with no problems.

I was on that during my last pregnancy. I didn't realize it wasn't FDA approved! It did give me the shakes BAD BAD BAD for the first few days... even 'inside my brain' shook! *shudders* but after a few days it was just 'outward' shakes and not AS awful

Kept her in 'til she was done,, so it was worth every bit of the side effects

oh thank you! I did get the shot and shook very badly in the hospital. I just like to hear that other people took it too. It makes me wary to take anything while being pregnant. Even though I have 2 children I feel like this is my first pregnancy sometimes and I just get nervous!
