DH and I have been trying for 2 1/2 years now to get pregnant with our second baby. Nothing. I've been fertility charting for almost a year, and that hasn't helped [though I do know down to the hour when I'm going to get my period! ]. When do you just throw up your hands and seek medical intervention? Is it possible to trust that God will give you a child in the perfect timing, and yet it be okay (within that) to go to a fertility specialist?

Maybe I'm just discouraged. My SIL and cousin are both pregnant and due in October. More women around me are having babies -- some who don't even want them or don't want them "right now". I've just been letting things happen as they will; having charted for a while, I can determine when I'm fertile and I am really working on (and succeeding at) enjoying my 3 year old son. I just really want another baby. *sigh* I guess it is just discouragement talking.

p.s. we don't have insurance for 3 months, so the soonest I could go to a fertility doc would be the end of august.

Unless you have really great insurance be prepared a lot of fertility issues are not covered! Beleive me I know! Make sure they test dh first its a lot less intrusive and could save you some time and money!

Good luck

I would go when you have your insurance. It might be something simple. I do not understand about why you might be conflicted about going to a doctor vs. trusting in God. If you had diabetes, would you not go to the doctor? Or would you just pray and hope to get well? Same thing.

Well because it isn't a life/death thing. Not having another baby isn't interfering with my health. I definitely am one who believes in going to the doctor if you're sick or have health-related issues (diabetes, etc).

I went through something similar. I prayed about it and asked others to pray for me and DH as well. I felt like it was meant to be when things starting falling into place. Waiting for the insurance is a wise decision indeed because infertility treatments are not cheap!
Best wishes!

Normally, I believe doctors say you should try for a year before seeking help. I would go to the doctor as soon as you can. Secondary infertility is very common.

Doctors do say to have tried at LEAST a year before it's necessary to seek treatment. I'd just try to relax the next few month's and give it the old "fun" way, and see what happens. If you're still not pregnant after you get your insurance then you could consult an OBGYN.

I would say definitly go to the doctor. Here's how I see it: if you have insurance (in 3 months of course) and live in a time with medical techonology then God has provided you with the means to seek help for something you so desire. You guys will have to determine through a lot of prayer and discussion how far you take it. For example, dh and I decided early on in our marriage that we would only take fertility treatments so far if we had trouble and after that we would adopt. That was what seemed right for us, but God leads in different directions. Perhaps God is leading you in the direction of fertility doctors so you shouldn't have to feel conflicted about it. I understand your stress though. Good luck and keep us posted!!!

I know you've been trying for so long.

As soon as you get insurance again, just go. I felt better once I talked to my doctor and felt like I had a plan. Of course, then we got pregnant. But the mental part for me was taken care of (I felt), so then we just went on.

Also, your age helps determine how long you try without help. But since you've already gone 2 1/2 years of trying, you are beyond the usual trying period suggested by doctors. So just GO!!! (and good luck!)
