Maybe some of you ladies have gone through this...I *think* I might have mastitis, or I'm just miserable and have things wrong with me!
I do have a doc appt in a couple hours.
Anyway, yesterday I whacked myself with the rake, caught the bottom side of one of my "twins". Last night I noticed a big red spot, about the size of a quarter there. DH thought it might be a boil, but it didn't have a "head". It's just a big red spot with dark red around the middle.
Today, I feel like CRAP. Tired, dizzy, headache, pukey feeling. That side hurts to touch, and keeps throbbing. However, it doesn't "feel" hard or anything, it just aches, and that spot is still there. I pump, so I'm trying to pump often now. Nothing funky is coming out, but it's sore. I did put a warm compress on the spot last night.
Any thoughts, ideas, advice? I'm afraid to go lay down because I have to leave at 12:15 for my doc appointment. Just trying to stay upright till then...

I just read your post-what did the DR say? I never had Mastis, but it sounds like it could be it. I just thought it came from clogged milk ducts though. Let us know!

Do you have a fever? My sister had a really high fever, when she had it.

sounds like when I had mastitis. I caught it early luckily, because a bunch of family members had the flu and I had similar symptoms.

I have it I also may or may not have an abscess going, so I have to watch it and if it gets worse, I have to go to ER to get IV antibiotics. I'm on giant horse pill antibiotics, and she even has me on 4x a day instead of 3x a day. I go back in Friday to checkup.
It totally feels like the flu, bad, and that "side" HURTS a lot now.

Catching it early is key, and you've gone beyond early, w/the flu symptoms. I've had it a number of times, and was hospitalized for 5 days once w/it when it developed into sepsis (blood poisoning). No fun, and nothing to be taken lightly. I felt bad for having to have dh drive me because I was too sick to drive (stupid of me to feel that way). It starts w/a clogged duct and inflammation, and your rake hit could have caused the clogged duct.
I'm so glad you went to the Dr...that was the right thing to do. Does he have you on Augmentin? If not, he may not think you are all that bad yet. If the anitbios do work, the flu symptoms will be better (but not gone) within 24 hours, but the flaring pain may take longer. I always take about 4-5 days before it gets better.
Hugs to you...It's NO fun. Don't let yourself get engorged, or it will feel worse. It's OK, and even helpful for baby to nurse on that side as often as you can. Unfortunately, once you get it, you are prone to getting it again, so take good care of yourself (fatigue really opens the door to it) and see the Dr. as soon as you see a bright red area with heat. Once it starts streaking, it's really getting bad, then the flu symptoms will start. He probably told you to rest, rest, rest, drink LOTS of water - they even say take baby to bed with you. You need and deserve the rest. You are ill. I hope you'll be bouncing back quickly.
