DD has a cough. Its not horrible, but its enough to be bothersome. Any suggestions on what to do for an 11 month old with a cough? She's napping right now with the humidifer on and I put some baby rub on her chest.

Ds kept what his doctor called a "daycare cough and cold" for about a year around that age. The thing that I found that worked best for him was to put him in a bouncy chair/swing, turn the shower on hot and close the bathroom door. Works around the same way as a humidifier, but I think the hot steam actually helped to work the congestion/cough out quicker. Hope things get better for you both!

In my experience a ped normally won't give anything for just a cough, but if it ended up being RSV or something, then they would prescribe breathing treatments.

If she is sleeping fine, then it isn't bothering her too much, so thats good!

I usually crank up the humidifer and shut her door when she isn't in there so it can fill up with all the good air to help her breathe. I also have used Hyland's Cough and Cold C Plus tablets and they at least seem to help with a runny nose. They are homeopathic and have some C vitamin to help kick the bug.

Unless she is showing other symptoms, I wouldn't do more than you are already doing. Her body is working correctly.

I agree with cookie

if it is a croupie cough, like a seal, steaming her is good. put the shower on hot close the bathroom door and sit in there with her, to "steam" her.

hope she gets better soon

The ped. told me not to use the humidifier or steamer if it's a productive, i.e., croupy cough, only for dry (I know, the shower feels good!). It's OK short term, but only to loosen it, not to sleep in it.

I do rub Vicks on the feet, and the ped told me to use Delsym, but my little one was 2, and I don't know if it's OK for one your little one's age.

If there's wheezing, get to the Dr., due to the pneumonia risk. Diva has to use a breathing machine when she gets coughing, because it turns into asthma wheezing quickly. I have preventive meds to use when she starts to cough, and rescue meds when she does wheeze.
