DD (11 months today) is sick. Remember her cough yesterday? Well, its a full blown cold now. Water eyes, running nose, stuffy, congested, cough. you name it she's got it. She doesn't really want to eat, but she's drinking ok. I can't get her to stop crying though. I know she's exhausted right now, but she won't sleep. If I'm holding her, she just wants to sit and play with my hair. If I lay her down, she just cries and cries. I know its because she's sick, but I just can't handle it anymore. The past 24 hours has been aweful.

I'm going this afternoon to get the Hylands cold that someone reccommended. Does anyone else have other reccommendations to comfort her? Her humidifyer is on full blast. I tried the mattress angle thing, but she just rolls down to the other end and cries because she can't straighten herself out.

Awww! Poor thing. When our babies are sick it's hard on everyone. I honestly would just hold her and let her play with your hair if that's comforting to her maybe try to rock her to sleep. Once you give her some meds. and she gets some relief she may get her needed rest.

She might have an ear infection. Those come lots of times with colds and sometimes the symptoms are worse when the child lies down. So I would be tempted to have the doctor examine her just to make sure she doesn't. Another thing you can try is putting a heating pad or one of those little warm packs over her ear and see if that makes her feel better. If so, she definitely has an ear infection.

I would suggest taking her to the doctor to make sure she doesn't have an ear infection...since she is crying so much and most of the time a cold precedes an ear infection.
Good luck.

I agree that I would take her to the pediatrician for a check. Crying like that could very well be that she's just not feeling good but it could also be an ear infection. I hope she's better soon.

I always recommend that new moms get a La-Z-Boy type of rocking recliner for moments just like this. You can put her on your chest and both of you can sleep in a big comfy chair like that. I know. I've done it many times.

I agree that it is difficult to find infant OTC medications that work anymore. It might be time to call the doctor.

The health store didn't have the Hylands stuff, but I got her Children's Cold and Flu Relief by NaturBio. I give her 1/2 dropper every 20 minutes until she seems like she's doing better then I cut her back. I think its working!

I left the house yesterday for about 4 hours-I couldn't deal with the crying anymore. DH said that she seemed like she wasn't as fussy if she was outside so he took a blanket out and sat with her for a while. He also took her in the garden where her white pants she had on got filfty dirty! She only napped for about 1 1/2 hours yesterday. An hour on our bed and 1/2 hour while I was in the shower (she was sleeping in DH's arms when I got out-how adorable!)

I was so happy-she slept through the night! Her humidifyer was on and I raised her mattress again. Surprisingly she stayed in one spot all night! Maybe she realized that sleeping that way helped her to breathe better.

This morning she doesn't seem like shes coughing as much and her nose isn't running quite so bad. My favorite part-she isn't crying! She actually was playing with her toys while I sat on the couch watching Rachael ray drinking my tea (now I'm getting sick!). I think today will be a better day.

Thanks for your advice! She sounds wheezy today so if she doesn't sound better after her nap I'm calling the dr.

I agree about calling the Dr. She sounds miserable, and you really want to rule out anything major, like strep, ear infection, secondary tummy issues, and all, and they can give you ideas on making her more comfortable.

In addition, you are talking about wheezy - my little girl was given a nebulizer machine - a breathing machine that we end up using a few times a year now, along w/meds for it. I'd def. take her to the Dr.

I agree with everyone else about the Dr. My first one (now 3) came down with pnumonia. We thought it was just a cold. She kept coughing and coughing. The Dr.( he was old school) Said just keep pushing liquids. Finally I couldn't take it any more and saw one of the partners and it was a bad case of pnumonia.
