I am new to this site and have found a lot of helpful information already. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 13 months now. I was wondering how long it took everyone else? Also if you have any advice/suggestions please share.

Hi! First of all welcome to the site! Second of all, for me and my DH, it took us 2 months to conceive first ( that ended in a miscarriage at 7 weeks), then it took us 7 months to conceive Rebecca. And it took us 18 months to conceive this current baby.

The advice that I have is simple: relax and don't focus on it so much!

After I miscarried, DH and I (who had only been married 4 months at the time) tried to time everything perfectly every month. We tried to figure out ovulation, and all of that other stuff. We were so stressed out about it, (as a side note, doctors had told DH that due to a develpmental issue from his childhood, he had a very low sperm count and would probably never be able to father children). Finally after 5 months, we said this is ridiculous, it is straining our marriage, it is causing us to argue and fight, etc. We put away all the books and charts, etc and said it will happen when it happens. Then 2 months later I was pregnant. This current pregnancy was surprise, neither of us was trying to get me pregnant intentionally. We were actually talking about waiting until Rebecca was at least 2 but there were other plans in action.

I do know it takes some women longer than others to conceive. My mother told me she actively tried for 4 years to conceive after she had me and I was a little over 5 years old when my brother was born. THere is also a 12 year difference btn my brother and my sister. Then a miscarriage 2 years later, then 2 years later my mom concieved my youngest brother (I was 21 when he was born). I recently talked to my mom about this and she said that she and my dad, were actively trying all those years to get pregnant, she is not sure why they couldnt and why so much time passed. (they both had medical tests done and everything was fine).

Sorry this is so long. Just remember, relax and good blessings will come your way!

It took us 4 years of actively trying. We were very close to giving up and we got pregnant and now have a beautiful baby girl. Keep trying it's worth it.

Two years with dd. Three years with ds with one of those years using fertility treatments (that didn't work).
Best advice would be to relax and enjoy the time.

It's been nearly 3 years for us trying for #2. We conceived DS after about 16 months. This round has been harder, but I comfort myself in knowing that God has an appointed time for our next precious baby to be born, so I'll conceive 9 months prior to that date. I'll wait, and have some creative fun with DH while we wait.

Would anyone be comfortable with posting their age when their baby was concevied? I think it helps to know.

DD took us 5 1/2 years and DS took us another 5. During that time, I had fertility treatments that didn't work. Both kids came on their own!

One thing I did find out is that each time I became pregnant, I had been exercising for about 2 months. (walking an hour a day) I looked into this and found that exercise helps control insulin levels and sugar utilization, and when those things are out of whack they affect your hormones. Maybe that's not the issue with everyone, but I'm pretty sure that was it with me.
I think it may be more common than people think. I used to work for WIC, and I can't tell you how many pregnant women (at least 2 a week) would tell me "Darn-I just started exercising and getting in shape, and now I'm pregnant!"
Good luck!!!!

It took us a year to conceive the baby we just lost. Now we're working on trying for another, and we've been trying for that one for 2 months now.

I've heard women say the same thing too! I need to start exercising, if for nothing but the energy it would give me and the time I'd get alone.
