DD has been a GREAT sleeper all through til...today. I don't know if someone snuck her a sugar IV or what, but she is HYPER and does NOT want to sleep. Normally she wakes about 7:30am, then nap around 10am for about half hour, then nap at 1pm for about 2-3 hours, then nap at about 5 for half hour, then bed at 7:30pm with one waking at 3am for a bottle.
She's slept a total of about one hour today, in three short 20 min naps, and is NOT wanting to go to sleep. All day has been go-go-go on her part, wanting to play, talking, wanting stand on our laps, just being in all a total goof and crazy girl. When I put her down, usually she goes right out, I usually put her down when she's rubbing her eyes and what not. Her room is cool, quiet and dark.
Now, she's in there talking and making her new "noises", not fussy or crying, but just being silly. If I happen to go in there and she sees me, she starts her squealing/laughing and kicking her feet as fast as she can, then rolling over and spinning around.
What the heck happened? She only gets solids on and off because she is on the light side, and when it gets warm, she gets constipated and the food makes it worse. She has not had any solids today. She's had bottles, but usually has about 6 or even 12oz more by now. She pushes the nipple out or grabs and paws the bottle from her mouth. She's not warm, she's not cranky, nothing points to her being sore or owie or uncomfortable.
Any ideas? I'm thinking of trying to find a blanket large enough to swaddle her, give that a try, though she hasn't been swaddled in months.
She's 6 months today, and no strange happenings today. Pretty uneventful.
I am not keen to let her just hang in there until she gets upset and then doing CIO. She seems happy in her crib - TOO happy.
Help?

My son will be 6 months on the 30th. He is on a similar schedule to that of your daughter. Bed between 7 and 7:30, waking once in the night to eat. He wakes in the morning between 7 and 7:30 am. He takes a short nap in the morning, a longer nap in the afternoon and a short nap in the earlly evening.
He is usually cranky just before nap time and wants to go down. He is very active and is usually exhaused by nap time. Today he was equally active however he didn't seen exhaused like he usually does. He actually only took two naps today. I think around this time the babies are just transitioning between 2 and 3 naps. Recently my son is cranky with only two naps but often seems wide awake at bed time if he has 3 naps.
My daughter was the same way.
I wouldn't worry. If something is wrong she will cry or fuss to let you know. If you are really worried I would call the peditrician.
Good luck!

Sometimes there is just too much fun stuff going on for these little babies to go to sleep. She'll probably adjust in a day or two. At least she doesn't sound crabby!

I started laughing as I read. If you read back through your post, I think your answer is giggling at you.
She's got some new awareness and new skills and life is just too exciting right now! Sounds a smart little muffin!
Tire her out by playing with her and then use calm music before sleepytime and soothing touches, dances and words/sensations. She'll get used to it again...until she learns her next skill!

Well, we finally had bedtime success at about 9:30pm - about an hour past *my* bedtime!
DH played and played with her until about 9pm, and she showed no signs of stopping - laughing and squealing.
I took her into her room, and sat in the glider with her, wrapped her arms tight to her body with a receiving blanket, and we rocked...and rocked and rocked and rocked. For about 10 mins, she just looked all around, at me, at the walls, at the dog, look look look. Then for about 10 mins she got sleepy eyes, and would close her eyes and then wake up again. She'd also kick her legs and squirm a bit, I just held her, rubbed her head, rocked and "Shhhh"ed. Finally, she fell asleep and I rocked for another 10 mins just to make sure she was good and out. She didn't wake when I put her in her crib, and she woke at 5am for a bottle, and is back out again.
Little monkey! I hope she settles in a routine, I need it!

LOL! You're a very articulate writer, so I can see exactly whay your dd is doing, and I, too, laughed at your post. Anyway, I would agree with desertmom, in that she's finding new things she can do to occupy her time AND her mind at this stage and age.
The other thing that jumped out at me is that, yes, she may be ready for a transition from three to two naps a day. I, personally, don't believe anything around 20-30 minutes is or should be considered a nap. But that's JMO. You may want to see if she'll nap a little longer in the am and a little later in the pm. You're lucky (as I was) to have a great sleeper on your hands!! I know these stages can be confusing, and you're searching the whole child's body for what could be wrong, and causing this disturbance!!
I remember both of my dd's at right around 7 months, would wake up at 3 am, give or take only about 5 minutes, for a month! It was the strangest thing. They had previously slept right through the night, but whamo! 3 am wakings. They outgrew it, and then when they could start to pull themselves up, a whole new round of games began!!
Have fun with all the stages!!

I'm chuckling at your posting as well, but also realizing how lucky I am! DD slept 12 hours straight from about the time she was 4 months! I'm an early to bed person-usually 9/9:30 and i get up around 7:30 when she does.
I was thinking. With her wanting to be more exploritive and liking to make her new sounds, she's growing up and becoming a more "independent" baby. Try giving her a few more solids to make her belly a little fuller. My doctor reccommended me giving her a little vitamin C to help with DD's consipation issues (1/8-1/4 2-3x day of crystilized Vit C-in powdered form at the health store). Are you doing any fruit juices? That also helped DD. That actally continues to help her with her issues. If I see she's struggling I do more juice that water (normally about 1 part juice to 6 parts water. constipated is more like 1/2 and 1/2).
She could be going through a growth spurt. I've read that most babies eat/sleep more when they go through a growth spurt but the opposit can happen too. Hopefully today was a better day and tomorrow she'll start to get back to a normal schedule. I agree with the above-she might be wanting 2 longer naps in the day. She just doens't know it!
