....but I'm totally paranoid about the whole concept of having a little "human" growing inside me!! The whole concept just freaks me out ...not to mention all the stories I've read about labour and everything that is associated with it...again, freaky
One of my GF's is pregnant again (she lost her first one due to a defect the Dr's found...very sad story) and because of her, I'm thinking we ought to hurry up and get preggo ourselves. It would be wonderful to go through a pregnancy with someone (and no, I dont just want to get pregnant because of her, but more for the support and going through it with someone so I actually have someone to talk to). I only have 1 other friend who has had a baby...everyone else is either getting married or not in relationships.
Did anyone else experience these sorts of feelings? I'm excited about the "idea" but terrified of the physical concept of being pregnant
How did you get past feelings of nervousness? Help!!

I never had the feeings of nervousness or of being freaked out about being pregnant. But I will tell you that it is the most amazing feeling you will ever have. Even of you're sick, or tired, or bedridden, or whatever, knowing that you and your dh created a life and it's growing in your belly, I can't describe it. It gets even more fun and fascinating when the little buggers start moving around in there Good luck, I'm sure you'll love it!

Hi PrarieGirl,
I'm a newbie too and dh and I are trying for our first too. Yeah, I am a little nervous with the whole idea of me carrying a new life. It seems like an enormous responsibility and I worry about me doing something wrong that will hurt the growing baby. I just have to remember that women have healthy babies every single day and that the chances of something going wrong with my pregnancy are pretty minimal. I'm sure when I'm actually pregnant, I'll have feelings of nervousness and will hopefully get through them and be able to really enjoy being pregnant.

I didn't have those exact feelings, though I was nervous I must admit!
I think that we hear so much from other women, so many scary stories, that they kind of stick with us!!
I can tell you that being pregnant can is overall joyful ( minus the morning sickness)..
I wish you the best!!

I felt the same way (only ours wasn't planned!) And I have to tell you that (to me) once the baby started moving it was very much like you have a little alien living in your belly!
But like others have said, it is THE MOST amazing experience that I have EVER had and I would not trade it for all the money in the world!!! AND Women have done it for thousands of years before us and will continue long after we're gone! The pregnancy is temporary, the pain of labor is temporary but once that baby is here they're yours forever!
Good Luck! I can't wait to hear the good news!

Well, I was the opposite of some of the ladies here - I was nervous about being pregnant, it took a year to GET pregnant (I was two weeks from my annual appt and was going to talk about starting fertility tests), and when I did get pregnant, it was less than fun. Actually, I hated every second of it.
HOWEVER!!!!! I have what I think is the most wonderful, beautiful, intelligent, perfect baby here, playing on a quilt on the floor. Of course, I might be a little biased.
You know what too....we are trying for #2 now When they told me in the hospital after my surgery that it would be all worth it when she came, I thought they were BS - nothing was worth that much pain and fear (I had appendicitis at 6 months preg). I was so wrong though - If I had to go everything again next time, I so will. I'll complain the whole time, I think I have that right if I have such a bad pregnancy, but, it isn't BS when they say its worth it in the end.
So, even if you have a hellacious pregnancy, it's a drop of water in the sea of how completely awesome that little munchkin is when they are smiling and playing with you - or even better - watching you husband play with them and see how totally they can love someone else - and that's ok with you. DD has DH so totally "whipped" it's a joke, but it's just sooooo cool to watch them together.
Oh, I asked for an epidural immediately upon knowing I would be admitted for labor, and I had a total BLAST during delivery - we were telling jokes and stories the whole time, and since I couldn't make it to any classes, the nurse was super helpful, and it went just fantastic. That was my favorite part of the whole pregnancy!

I'm with ya! When I got pregnant, I really read up on all the changes that take place in the mother's body, all the symptoms, and the birthing process, and IT'S ALL SO SCI-FI!! Like on Sex and the City, when Carrie says to Miranda, "you've got a little penis growing inside of you!" Eww! It freaked me out. And then, when the little foot would move like a bubble across my belly, starting at one side and sticking out all the way to the other, it really was like an alien moment! But you get used to it, and the more you know the more comfortable you get with the whole thing.
Also, the only friend I had when I was pregnant who had anything to do with parenting was a mom to a 12 y/o boy, so I had no peers to talk with about what was going on. I don't blame you at all for taking the opportunity to have a support system in place. I would have loved that.
Good luck! And remember, you have the option to sleep thru the whole thing if it gets to be too much for ya!

I loved being pregnant with DS#1.. It is the greatest feeling in the world knowing you created a miracle.. I would sit and think for hours how a tiny sperm could connect with a tiny egg and create flesh and bones to make this miracle that grows inside you.... It was awesome when I could feel him move inside me.. DH told everyone that would listen that when I cuddled up to him at night the baby would automatically start kicking him!
I can't explain how it makes you feel. I'm not sure there are even words to describe the love and excitement you feel. When that child is born... OMG! It is the best moment of your life!
Now that DS is almost 4 we are trying to conceive baby #2. I can't wait to feel that all over again!

I also felt the being pregnant was the biggest miracle I had ever known. I would spend hours, and still think about it when I'm holding my daughter, about how a tiny sperm and a tiny egg produced such a beautiful and perfect child. Even as I'm typing this, I still can't believe it. Even with all of the pregnancy hardships, being pregnant has been the best time of my life. I never knew how much feeling that baby inside of you gives you prespective.
It's ok to be nervous and scared, it's a big deal to conceive a child and carry him or her inside of you for 9 months. But just like other ladies have already said, whatever you go through is more than worth it when you hold that tiny, little, squirmy and warm little body in your arms.
I wish you the best.

I cannot relate, as I couldn't wait to get pregnant and I loved every minute
However, my half sister always had a fear of getting pregnant. Her mom had carried a baby for 9 months and the baby was born dead My sis was always afraid that something so tragic would happen to her. Until one day in December the fear just went away. The very same day, her husband (who was at work at the time) had a feeling that it was time. They got pregnant the following month (She's 36).
It is scary thinking about all the things that could go wrong, but it is the most amazing thing to experience. I can't wait to try to conceive #2.
Good luck and I hope things get easier.
