And a second question ... when did you tell your family?

Looking for some good ideas for a friend ... and no, it's not me!

We found out we were pregnant about 2 weeks before DD's 1st birhtday party. I went and got her a shirt that said "I'm the big sister" and after she got messy from her cake, DH changed her into it. He walked her out the door and you could hear people whispering after they read it!

My favorit reaction was my mom. She told me after that she was sitting there thinking "Why did she buy her that shirt? I wanted to get that shirt for her when they had another baby". It wasn't until my MIL looked at her and said "Did you know about this?"

Another favorite reaction was a friend who knew we were thinking about it came up to me all mad. I lied to her a few days earlier and said I wasn't pregnant when she asked if I was. Telling someone in person is so much better than onthe phone!

We were about 5 weeks when we told.

We had been trying for 5 years when I got pg so I had a blast telling family.

I told my mom and aunt by giving them tulips wrapped in baby bibs -- they're reactions were priceless.

I told my dad, friends and co workers by making/wears a shirt that said "The future lies within" EVERYONE thought it was something spiritual. LOL! If I had it to do again I would have put an arrow pointing to my stomach or a picture of a baby.

Oh I told my hubby by giving him a card and a coin about fathers that I had got when we first started ttcing.

That was so much fun!!

We found out December 21st. So it was perfect to be able to tell family at the get-togethers for Christmas. With the gifts we got for our parents, we signed the card "Love: Josh, KJ, and baby" My MIL & my Dad got it right off and were so excited. My mom read the card and went on to open her gift like no big deal. I asked mom if she read the card and she said yes. I said, read it again. She did and put it down. I said "MOM, read it AGAIN" She looked and was like "OMG!! I just read over that part knowing who it was from!!!" LOL

Clarasmom07's story is exactly how mine was going to go, but we didn't really have time to find the T-shirt! Still, it was at dd's 1st day party. We were only about 10 weeks along, so it was early for telling people, but everybody was there so it seemed the best time.
I said to my parents and in-laws, "What are you doing February 9th?" Everybody was looking at each other saying things like, "well, how the heck should I know; it's July!" My dad was the only one who got it. He said, "what SHOULD we be doing?"
I said, "well, WE'LL be having a baby sometime around there, so plan accordingly."

The funny part is, the whole weekend, nobody actually said "congratulations". They were all very excited, esp. mil who had been asking us every chance she got if we were pregnant again, or planning on it. And there were all sorts of questions and comments, but no real congrats. Hmm.

My dear, dear nosy mil--about a month before this, the first week I suspected I might be preggers b/c of the nausea and such, was when we were camping with my in-laws. She had talked to me in depth about having another baby, when we thought we would, etc. We really had no plans and didn't want to do it anytime soon, but we took the Catholic approach to birth control, so... Anyway, she was like, "I JUST talked to you about this and you were SO serious about not wanting another one, and you said, 'I can't imagine having a baby right now' and you were pregnant the whole time!" I said, "well, it's a lot easier to imagine having one now that I know I'm pregnant!" It was funny...
