I wouldn't consider my diaper bag neat and tidy, but I keep it in the car with all my essentials in it-diapes, wipes, disp changing pads, cream, single serving juices, snacks, and a change of clothes. The diapers and wipes are on top because thats what I use the most of.
I use the little bottle holder inside the bag to store her diaper rash cream so I know exactly where its at. Nothing worse than searcing for cream when you got an exposed baby!
Her juice is in the outside bottle pocket.
Snacks-its a container of Gerber Puffs-mostly its laying on top of the diapers so I can reach it to give her a quick snack.

Organized and diaper bag....hee hee 2 words that don't go together for me. LOL!! I do make sure some essentials are always in her diaper bag and then check to see I have everything right before we leave.
In the main pocket I have: a few diapers, wipes, outfits, bibs, burp cloths/blankets, toys, a container with snacks, extra formula, a brush because my girl has TONS of hair, and socks.
In the side pocket that zips I have diaper cream, lotion, baby asprin, sun screen in the summer, extra pacifier, and first aid supplies.
In the other pocket that zips I have a changing pad.
My diaper bag is always stuff full when we go places because I don't like to be without something I might need. A first time mom thing I think...LOL!!
Good luck!
Jana

Well I get annoyed if DD's diaper bag is not mostly organized. I always try to keep it like this:
In the main part, I have her diapers, disposable diaper bags and wipes container placed on one side. Next to those are a change of clothes, a few toys and books. There is a huge pocket in this part that zips. In there is 2 juice boxes, a ziploc bag of goldfish, an individual container of pears, a fork and spoon, and a nutrigrain bar. Sometimes we also have a vinyl covering made for a restaraunt table that we can put her food on instead of on the table that rests on top of the other things.
On the front of the diaper bag, there is a zippered part that has tylenol, thermometer, diaper rash cream, baby orajel, and a couple bandaids. There is also a cell phone pocket where we keep extra crayons in case a restaraunt doesn't have any.
On the back of the diaper bag, there is an open pocket that we keep extra napkins in.
On each side there is a pocket for a sippy cup.

I keep the bare minimum in my bag. For running errands around town I have a small bag. In it is 2 diapers, a little thing for wipes, an extra onesie and a 6oz bottle of formula. It sure when my little one gets bigger I will have more things in it!

I've really been enjoying just carrying the bare essentials these days. I took out everything I hadn't ever (or very rarely) used, and that seemed like it was a lot of stuff. But a great tip to keep your bag organized is to group things in sandwich bags if you have a lot of stuff. So you can put all your food stuff in one bag, and if you need food, just pull it out together. The same goes with med/safety stuff... you probably get the idea. I also like the idea of keeping a spare bag in the trunk with clothes, etc in it... but I don't do it because right now, I haven't really needed more than the basics. I do keep a spare diaper in my glove compartment in both cars.

My diaper bag was never organized. I only carried one for 6 mos or so, and then stuck a handful of toys, snacks, wipes, and diapers in a big purse and that's how I do it these days. But then, I'm never far away from home, so I don't usually have to pack around a bunch of stuff.
When the baby was really little, before I left the house I would go thru a mantra--"diapers, wipes, recieving blanket, toys, pacifier". If I had all those, I was set. There was, of course, tons of other stuff in the bag as well, but those were the necessities (she was exclusively breastfed for a long time, so no need for snacks/formula).
My biggest challenge was keeping dh out of it. When we were at home and he'd change a diaper, instead of going upstairs or across the room to get one, he'd take it out of the diaper bag. A few times, I found myself with only one diaper, or no wipes, etc. I finally got him to quit that.
So, that's the only problem I had, and that's the only real advice I can think of: Keep other ppl out of it, and it'll be easier to keep track of!
