I think it is more about your preference than saving money. According to my research, it was not much less expensive. Being better for the environment is also a toss up. You use energy, soap and water to wash the diapers. Also, you'll never use that many rags but maybe you can resell them. I don't know if there is a market for used diapers or not. However, with disposable you get a pile of diapers every week to take to the landfill. Cloth is more natural than manufactured diapers with chemicals. Are you using a phosphate & all natural laundry detergent? Are you bleaching the diapers? What about the moisture and comfort factor. My girls both have eczema. What about your sanity with three other children?
I had a brief trial of newborn cloth diapers and cloth/vinyl training pants and got tired of cleaning up puddles.
Of course I feel guilty for using disposable but I'm trying to make up for it in other areas.
