Ladies, I am expecting my 4th child in February and have never looked into cloth diapers. Are they much less expensive and are they really dirty to change/clean? How about the services that clean them for you??? Any help would be helpful. I need to figure out what is most cost-effective.

Thank you,

Michelle

I use cloth and love it. I don't have time for a lengthy post now but if you type "cloth diapers" into the search box you'll find tons of info from threads discussing cloth diapers before. Btw, we use Fuzzi Bunz but there are a ton of different styles and types to choose from.

The service can be expensive, but since we switched to washing our own cloth diapers, it is a lot cheaper.

I like that cloth is better for the environment and IMO, better to put against my babies skin. An added benefit is that come potty training time, the child can instantly tell when the diaper is wet!

Good luck!

Well....We've discovered that it is not all that much less expensive to cloth diaper ONE child. The savings really start to add up when more children come along. Really do your research on them. You can spend a little ($300) or a fortune.

I think it is more about your preference than saving money. According to my research, it was not much less expensive. Being better for the environment is also a toss up. You use energy, soap and water to wash the diapers. Also, you'll never use that many rags but maybe you can resell them. I don't know if there is a market for used diapers or not. However, with disposable you get a pile of diapers every week to take to the landfill. Cloth is more natural than manufactured diapers with chemicals. Are you using a phosphate & all natural laundry detergent? Are you bleaching the diapers? What about the moisture and comfort factor. My girls both have eczema. What about your sanity with three other children?

I had a brief trial of newborn cloth diapers and cloth/vinyl training pants and got tired of cleaning up puddles.

Of course I feel guilty for using disposable but I'm trying to make up for it in other areas.

I use cloth diapers and it's been serving me and the kids really well. I read from an earlier post of the benefits, its not quiet expensive considering the fact that we'll still probably pay for laundry
