Last night dh and I enjoyed some margaritas for our anniversary (yeah 6 years!) and obviously I don't want my baby to enjoy them as well. I pumped this morning when I woke up and threw it out. How long until I can nurse him again?

My doctor told me that alcohol doesn't stay in breast milk, it moves in while you're drinking and then leaves when it leaves the rest of your blood. So unless you really knocked them back last night, you could have bf this morning.

That is helpful info. I am not breastfeeding, nor will I ever be able to again, but I think a lot of ladies do not know that. It makes sense too, that it would be gone, once it is out of your bloodstream.

In all my BF training as a BF consultant, we were told, "If you are sober enough to drive, you are sober enough to BF." As a WIC counselor, we recommended Pump and Dump for up to 2 hours after your last drink, if your consumption was reasonable (1-2 drinks). HTH

That is good information. I don't drink, but I would have thought you'd have to pump it and get rid of it too! Thanks for sharing.

I was told that if you have 1 or 2 drinks a few hours before your next feeding, you don't have to pump and dump.

So on the 2 occasions that I did drink while I was BF-ing, I just had my two shots of sake or the glass of beer right after I fed my DD. I never pump and dumped.

But my cousin in law went out on a major binger once while she was BF-ing her first child. It was a real PITA (pain in the a**) for her because she had to pump enough breastmilk to feed her son for the time that she was gone (1 day), and enough to feed her son afterwards while she pump and dumped (1 day). Then she had to pump and dump. She said it was totally not worth it to have that binger.

So have a drink or two, and have fun. Besides, isn't red wine and beer (the natural yeast in it), good for you?
