Do you share traditional nursery rhymes with your little ones? If so, which ones? Do you read them, sing them or watch the on video?

I've noticed a trend away from Traditional Nursery Rhymes. My kids learned about them from story books, songs and Barney shows. I think we've covered most of the traditional Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes.

Some of their favorites were: Hickory Dickory Dock, Itsy Bitsy Spider, One Two Buckle My Shoe, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

Yes I do. Some of them seem a little violent, but all in all it is better than anything on tv.
I shared on here before that I found my favorite from when I was a child on ebay, and I bought it. I think it was called Mother Goose and other Favorite Rhymes? Something like that. It was published by Parents Magazine in the
70's. She loves it. She always asks me to read through in one setting, but I can't, it is too long. I bought at least one more, for some variety. You usually can't find all of them in every book.
My favorite to actually read to her is Prayers and Poems for the Very Young.
And I love A Child's Garden of Verses.

My favorite poem is A Great Grey Elephant. At least I think that is what it is called. It is the first poem she memorized. That and Our Father Who Art in Heaven.
Poems were the only thing she would sit through when she was about 1. I guess she liked the rhythm.

I do. We have so many nursery rhyme books, both old-fashioned and contemporary, plus poetry books for kids, and we do them pretty much every night, plus a story or two. What's cool is that now that my diva's three, she is singing them and reciting them back. My son never did that, largely due to the Aspergers, I think. But I know he had absorbed them. Now he joins in with his sister!
