My DH & I have been trying to concieve since April. With my first, we weren't trying at all. He was a nice surprise. Everyone in my family has always had TOO easy of a time to get pregnant....we have always laughed saying that it's in the jeans to be "fertile myrtle". Anyway, after my DS was born I wanted to breastfeed. My doctor told me there were only two birth control methods I could use that would not dry my milk up, the "mini pill" which has be taken at the exact time everyday because it's not as strong as the others OR the depo shot. I knew I wouldn't be able to do the same time everyday, because I was never good with the pill before (timing wise). So I took the shot. I got the shot over my DS's first year. After that, I did not get the shot again. I was ready to start trying for another, DH was not. We had a few months of using condoms, which frustrated my DH. SOOO as a Valentine's day gift for him (early) I got one last shot which would last for 3 months. We agreed to start trying after that wore off.
Well at the end of May I went in for my yearly and was telling my doctor that we were trying. He THEN told me how common it was after the shot to not be able to concieve for awhile. He said he wouldn't be surprised if I didn't get pregnant until the beginning of next year or even longer. WHAT??? I couldn't believe this. He never mentioned this to me before I put that stuff in my body! And even when I got that last shot, I was telling the nurse my plan for getting this shot and then trying to get pregnant after it. She didn't tell me then how it could cause temporary infertility!! (And I know she knew because I called her right after my shot wore off to ask some questions)
So I know that I'm ranting right now, but I also want to let everyone else out there know that this is something the shot can do. Apparently it is very common after the shot (I've done some research AFTER the fact). Apparently AVERAGE conception after last shot is 18months!! I just don't know if I can be that patient!! After this, I can say FOR SURE that I will NEVER use any form of birth control that is internal. After seeing what that stuff can do, I don't even want to take the pill again. We will be seeking other options, if we ever are blessed with another baby.

I am sorry you are going through this. I absolutel DESPISE the Depo shot. I had one shot when I got married, and it threw me into such a downward spiral of depression that I, literally, do not remember the first 6 months of our marriage. No one told me when I first got it that for the length you have it in your system, it would take that length to get out of your system. so a 3 month shot took 6 months to fully leave my system. Again, I'm sorry you're suffering through this. DH and I have been TTC #2 for 3 years now, and still nothing. I'll keep you in my prayers, and join you in agreement that Depo is horrible and, IMO, should be taken off the market.

I am so sorry
I would recommend following the natural plannning... to try to get preg sooner
if that is what you want, and to do some natural things to help your body
checking temp and cervical mucus to make sure you are ovulating. did any of the info say that these women were not ovulating or getting af?
green tea, robutisson helps thin out cervical mucus
pre-seed
If I were you, I would be calling the nurse and talking to them. venting raniting etc....lol

Further explanation needed. What is pre-seed? How often do you take the robitussin?? What I read was that these women were not ovulating. After we started trying, I went two months with no period. then I went for my yearly and he gave me a 10 day pill that would make me start. It worked, I started. And now I am having a period every two weeks so far. I called the nurse...they said thats normal after the depo. Everything could be out of wack for awhile. Where can I get more info about checking temp and cervical mucus?? I'm very interested in finding ways to get me pregnant ASAP!
Flybygrace, I am so sorry you have been trying for such a long time. These past several months have been terrible on me. I can't imagine 3 years! My DH keeps telling me that if it was God's will for me to be pregnant, I would be...no matter about the depo. Even though I know that is true, it doesn't make it any easier...so I won't say that to you. I am saying a prayer for you right now that it is God's will for you to be pregnant and that his timing will be very soon for you!

The only thing that gives me peace through it all is the fact that I know that I know in my knower that God is sovereign over our family and His timing is PERFECT in when our children are both conceived and born. I often think of Sarah, and how she waited so long to bear a child, yet Isaac was born in God's PERFECT timing. He's building character in me, that's for sure, but when it boils down to it, no matter how much my heart longs for another RIGHT NOW, above all, I want only for His perfect timing and sovereign will for our family and children. So, maybe it will take a little longer than I hoped, but it'll be okay.

Check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler (it's available at the library). Obviously, if you're not ovulating, then you can't get pregnant yet, but this book can teach you how to pinpoint ovulation and maximize your chances of getting pregnant naturally (by tracking your cervical fluid and temperature). There's also an entire chapter in there about infertility. I think the Robitussin suggestion is also mentioned in the book.
And pre-seed (from what I've heard) is a product that mimics fertile quality cervical fluid which is crucial to conception. I think it's available online.

sorry, didn't mean to leave you hanging! lol
stephpook pretty much answered all those questions
you can get pre-seed at some pharmacies, it helps when you are lacking cervical mucus, which is necessary for sperm to live in so when your egg comes down they can swim to it.
taking charge of your fertility is a GREAT book
I used to take my temp, every morning at the same time. it will tell you when you ovulate. you will have a spike in temp after ovulation. when you are checking your cervical mucus and temp taking, it can help so you know when you ovulate, thus planning baby making easier.
the robutisson is for thinning out the cervical mucus, as some woman have mucus that is thick, not so good for the swimmers
I was a member of fertilityfriend.com a long time ago, I think now you may have to pay for membership. but it is helpful so you can chart your temps.
you could google basal body temp, or ttc temp taking etc
are you sure you are having your period every 2 weeks or is it that one is lighter than the other? because some women spot when ovulating.
good luck!

Thanks for the info. After your last message, I googled natural fertility and got a little info. I like that site you sent me too. I bought a basal thermometer yesterday. So once I start my cycle, I will start checking it. I am for sure having my period every two weeks...lasting a week each time. It's frustrating. The nurse said thats normal when trying to get the depo out of your system for your periods to be out of whack whether you aren't having them at all OR two or three a month. I'm so mad that I put that junk in my body!
