So there's been all this drama about my SIL's baby shower. Her SIL and MIL swear that every person (around 100) that came to the wedding shower needs to come to the baby shower, some "because they owe" them. (in return for giving these people gifts for weddings, graduations, etc.) SIL didn't want a huge circus with a zillion people and gross games and everyone crammed into a room staring at her open presents. So, MIL and I came up with a solution:

We will have it at MIL's home, with immediate family and close friends. SIL will be relaxing in one room to open presents as people come in; she can personally thank them for their gift and visit a few minutes with each. They will then take their items to a table/clothesline and hang up clothes or place their gift on the table so others can look at everything while mingling. Finger foods (veggie tray, cheese/crackers, chips, small sandwiches) will be available to get when they come in. In another room we will have a table set up with several baby items inside brown paper bags, stapled shut. The guests will have to shake, squish, feel the item from the outside and guess what it is, writing their guesses down. The winner(s) will receive a Mum plant (mum - get it? LOL), which we will have as decoration with some candles and balloons throughout the house. Nothing extreme or over the top. Simple, tasteful and pretty. SIL doesn't have 40 people staring at her in a tiny room, she will be in a comfy chair and can get up and take a break if needed (she'll be 2-3 weeks before due date). It will be fun and relaxing and only a couple hours long..

MIL and I figured it out last night and it's a huge weight off our shoulders! Poor SIL was getting so upset and stressed over it -- and that's the opposite of what the shower should be!.. Anyway, it's settled and everyone is happy. Well...maybe not her MIL & SIL

I like the idea of opening and displaying presents and people come in, kind of open-house-esque.
