That's why you salt and drain it first - removes a lot of the extra water.
My grandmother used to lightly salt the slices, then stack them on a plate about three slices high (more or less depending on how thick the slices were) with another plate on top of the stack to press the water out of them. After a hlf hour or so, she would drain them, and then flip them so that the bottom plate was on the top, and let them go another half hour.
