2 medium onions
1/4 c flour
4 c water
1 c dark beer, see note
2 c mushrooms, thickly sliced
1 c carrots or parsnips, sliced
1 c turnips or rutabagas (largely diced)
1 c celery, diced
1/2 c split red lentils
1/2 c fresh parsley
1/4 c soy sauce
3 veg bouillon cubes
1 bay leaf
2 tsp marmite
1 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp thyme
1/4 tsp rosemary
1/4 tsp marjoram
pepper
1 c textured vegetable protein, chunks

Lightly oil a pot and steam fry the onion til it begins to soften [that means cook it in a bit of water] Add flour and stir around completely.
Add the remaining ingredients, mix well, bring to boil. Cover and simmer on low for 30 minutes or til veggies are done.
Taste,season,and serve.

Marmite is dark brown-colored savory spread made from the yeast that is a by-product of the brewing industry. It has a very strong, slightly salty flavor. It is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it type of food.
It comes in small (2-5 inches high) bulb-shaped glass jars with a distinctive yellow lid.
Children in Britain are generally fed it from the time they are weaned, and most never grow out of it. It has a high B-vitamin content, as well as riboflavin and niacin—and as such is very healthy. (The vitamin-B complex helps prevent anemia.)
COOL! The B vitamins are tricky to get if you are a vegetarian and you should take a suppliment, but this sounds like a tastier way to get it into the diet.

Thanks.
