New mom here! I'm so glad I found this site. I'm 37 (as of yesterday). I stopped working in October of last year and had our daughter, Kate, 12/08. I did not have paid maternity leave and have made the choice to be a SAHM.

Holy budget shock!

It's been such a huge adjustment, and the adjusting just keeps happening. I've always been a bargain shopper and have never been a lavish spender, however I love being able to go into (insert store name here) and buy without too much thought. So far I have been ignoring the fact that I'm now on a beer budget. And, consequently, our accessible savings has been depleted because I keep having to transfer funds to the checking account. Whoops!

In a stroke of luck (or fate), I found a link to this site on MSNBC. This looks to be just the type of information and support I need. In fact, there is so much information here I could spend all day reading articles and browsing the forums.

Well, better get started... I have a lot of reading to do!

Heather, I found this site and felt the exact same way!! We have dropped in our finances due to a job change and move but still, it is quite a change! I hope that you can get some help here! I know I have!

Welcome! I, too, am snowed in in Minnesota. And when you're snowbound with kids it stinks to be on a beer budget!

Glad you've found us. I think the best advice I'd give you is to stay out of the stores altogether. If you don't know what you're missing, it doesn't hurt as much! Check out the "Spending Less and Living More" forum. Their monthly challenges are great. If you have any questions at all, please post them!

Welcome, I have 3 girls ages 8, 6 and 3. I too am a SAHM married going on 13 yrs.

I'm only snowed in until the plow goes by.

I live in the twin cities. we have lots of MN mommies here.
