I am 59 years old Mother of 3 daughters and Grandmother to a darling granddaughter and wonderful grandson. I have read the newsletter for years but not gotten into the threads.

I posted first time today on the issue of what do I consider to be poor.

I have gardened for years and have a dwarf orchard and vegetable garden. We grow our own veggies and make desserts from our own pumpkins, cherries, apples and apricots.

Together with my oldest daughter we make apricot jam, cherry and crab apple jelly. We have preserved food via canning, freezing or dehydrating.

I am contemplating the benefits of cooking a turkey from frozen state! Currently the odor of fresh flax seed bread is wafting from the kitchen.

I recently (January) was diagnosed with diabetes. Wondering if anyone has used fish oil to lower their triglycerides or any pointers for a newbie to the disease?

Hi Patti and welcome to Mommysavers! I think I'd like to be at your house right now - sounds like it smells yummy. Also sounds like you have a nice garden/orchard. I am going to plant my first actual garden this year and sure could use your tips in our gardening section.

I would be so interested in hearing your experiences on gardening and canning. Please make sure to check out our Gardening Forum ~ there are a lot us us jumping into the gardening world, and I am sure we could benefit from your knowlege!

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions about the board. Hope you post often!

welcome. I'm a SAHM to three girls. I too am diabetic but do not have high trigs. are u also diagnosed high cholesterol? of course have a lower trig is a benefits for diabetics but it is not due to diabetes. I have not used fish oil but there are others on here who are diabetic so you could post under health forum and ask your question there. I think it would get seen by more people.

are u seeing a nutitionist yet? that is the first thing to do and please bring someone with you b/c all the info can get overwhelming. plus they always think to ask questions you don't. I was gestational with all my kids and am consider boderline, but I take meds to keep it in check. all of my brothers and sister and mother have diabetes. It runs on moms side of the family.
excerise is the other important factor.

WOW! I have been talking with a lady recently regarding baking bread with flax seed. I just have not gone out and figured out where to get it yet! (blush)

Welcome to Mommysavers! I hope you can find lots of answers to your questions. I love being part of this forum where we can express our concerns and have others give suggestions and help!

If you are willing, please post your recipe for your bread in the kitchen forum.

Again, welcome to mommysavers! We look forward to getting to know you!
