Hi fellow newbie. I don't know if I am allowed to say this but I have a day home. I have two children ages 17 months and an almost 4 year old and staying at home with them has been increadible. I started watching other children in my home just after my oldest turned one. It has not been a problem to find children her age to watch, and I really do think that she has benefitted from having other children here.
As a Canadian roughly 1/3 of a pay cheque is taken off. Combine that with a professional wardrobe, gas, vehicle wear and tear, lunches, babysitters, after work convenience foods, etc., it does not leave a lot left over. I can't see myself working for a measly $3.00 an hour after all is said and done. Whereas now I get paid to stay at home with my children.
My oldest knows her shapes, colors, number, alphabet, her own phone number, where she lives, has about a dozen words that she prints from memory, and has been practicing the sounds that the letters represent. I could brag about her accomplishments a lot more, but I am happy to say that she is a bright, happy girl who is a joy to be around. She has not picked up many bad habits as I am around to supervise what is being said and done in my house.
That is my soap box stand for the day. Best of luck to you in your search.
