Hey all from Georgia. My name is Suzanne, aka Zanmama. I actually found out about this site by accident. 2 weeks ago, I had double mastectomies with begining reconstructions due to breast cancer. While I am at home recouperating, My neighbors brought me some magazines to read. This web site was listed in one of the magazines. I love the site, and have told all the other Mommies in my family about it and they love it too.
I have 4 children, 2 of which are still at home. I have one grandaughter who is 8.
I really hope to met lots of people and share ideas.
Thanks and God bless,
Suzanne

I am from a city approx. 35 miles south of Atlanta called Newnan.
I was first diagnosed with breast cancer on April 10, 2007. I only had to have simple mastectomies due to there was no involvement in the lymph nodes. YEAH !!! It has been rough, but I am making it. Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts. I would love to meet some other breast cancer survivors or women going through what I am now.
Suzanne

Praise the Lord that it was not in your lymph nodes! My dh aunt is a 2 time survivor of breast cancer! Are you having to undergo chemo/radiation?

Hey, zanmama! Welcome to mommysavers. I'm from Conyers...not too far from Newnan. Hopefully you will be cancer free from now on!

Thanks to all for all the nice welcomes !!!
As for the answers: I opted for double mastectomies because I lost my Mama, my Maternal Grandmother, and a couple of my mama's sisters to breast cancer. My breast surgeon told me on my follow up visit last week that I made the right decision to remove both because both breast's had pre cancerous cells in them. Before the surgery, I was told I wouldn't have to have chemo / radiation because it was confined to one area of the right breast. Now since the pathology report came back precancerous in both breasts, she wants me to see an oncologist, which I have an appt on Friday this week. She said he may not want to do anything, but just to be on the safe side. Officially, I am cancer free since my surgery.
I am not too far from Conyers. I have a son who lives in Covington. I try to go visit him every other weekend at least. I can't stand him being so far away, no matter how old he is. LOL.
Thanks again,
Suzanne

Wow. You are a recent survivor! Congrats, and you sound so strong! I'm going through the very beginning - they found a lump, sent me to a surgeon, who sent me for mammo and ultrasound. They weren't too concerned w/the side the lump was on, but on the left side (which had an abcessed lump removed in 2001 from mastitis problems), they found calcifications. They got my films from 2001 and compared them and are now recommending a stereotactic core biopsy. I was waiting for my Dr. to call me yesterday, as she'd been out of the office during the comparison by the radiology people, but didn't hear, so I'll be contacting her tomorrow to see what she wants me to do.

I'm nursing and have two little ones, so it's a bit scary. I had a great aunt w/it (they think - the family doesn't talk about it) and an aunt on the other side who chose mastectomies, but again, nobody knows the details and I don't have contact w/her. Other than that, I'm not really high risk, and I know this could be nothing. We'll see.

Welcome to Mommysavers! It's a really great group and the forums are both entertaining and informative. Have fun!

I learned the hard way that a biopsy is the only "true" way to tell if a lump is cancerous or not. When I found my lump, I had a mamo and a diagnostic ultrasound. The radiologist stood right there and told me it wasn't anything to worry about. Just looked like a cyst. Due to my family history, my doctor sent me for a biopsy and it was positive for cancer. I am not trying to scare you. Just please be very carefull. Maybe since you are nursing, it is just something to do with that. I will have you in my prayers.
