Hello all . I am a single father ith a son that is 17 . I have been raising him for the last 12 year on my own . We are in tight times and I seen the web site and really liked what I read . I hope now one minds that I am male but there are not may places for men yet. I thinkl I will be a good assent to the site as I know alot about home repair, cooking, cars, and a bit of crafting . . still learning that .

You are very welcome! Hop right in and join us in our posting and sharing! A lot of the moms here do their own fixing things too!....I'm not one of them...any ideas on how to fix a garage door or get it fixed without spending a lot?

It doesn't work.

Seriously...it started going up and stopping. Then, it stopped going up/responding to the buttons (both remote and the wired one on the wall) intermittently. Then it stopped responding...the motor would just whirr without the door opening, like it wasn't catching. When you push it, it hums like it will work, but the door doesn't open. We replaced the motherboard just a couple of years ago when a similar problem occurred. And the guy spray lubed the door/chain. Kept reminding my dh to do it, when it got too much for me to do, and of course, it didn't get done. Either way, I've been opening it manually - you can imagine what that does to a bad back.

Ok white letheium grease for the slides and chain or open grear lube . and if the motor hums then you could have a brokes drive belt in the motor case. should be just a few screws to check that out .

Wow! That sounds simple. Doesn't mean I can do it. Is it best to call an expert for it or do you think I can find out how on the web? The door is 12 years old.
