I'm so happy to have found this message board. I'm the working mother of one, and my husband is a SAHD. We have one son.
Living on one (modest) income in an area where the cost of living is exceedingly high presents its own difficulties, but we've been recently saddled with several thousands of dollars worth of medical debt. Fortunately, everyone in our family is now happily healthy, but we're really trying to cut back so that we can pay off the medical debt.
Beginning in October, we'll be attempting to live on half our income while sending the other half straight to medical debt. What I find difficult is that while we can live very frugally in some areas, we try to live as "green" as possible with local/organic foods and that can be a bit taxing on a stretched budget. Still, I think we can do it as we've done it in the past.
I'm hoping to get some good information and tips from this site.
