Hello everyone. My name is Tereasa and i live in Radcliff, KY. For those of you that have never heard of it, it's a small town just outside of Ft. Knox and about 35 miles from Louisville. We are a military family, so we move alot. We have been here for nearly 17 mos. now, and I love it. We are CA natives, but love the slower pace that KY offers. My husband and I have 2 beautiful children, Brandi (19) and Matthew (17)...aren't teenagers great? LOL. My mother in law and best friend (59) also lives with us. She's is amazing and I love her to death. I am very lucky to be able to say that, lol. Due to health related issues, I have had to leave more jobs than I care to say. I am a Type ll Diabetic and it seems that my immune system has suffered greatly over the last 5 yrs. I decided to start my home based business after leaving yet another job, and am so glad I did. I started out just looking for a way to earn an extra income from home and improved my health at the same time. I lost 17 lbs in a month, my bs is under control, my AC1 is now 6.4, and my cholestrol and bp has improved greatly! I'm also noticing an increase in my energy and I haven't been in ill for 2 mos! My dr's are hopeful that I should be able to come of some medications in the next 6 mos, if I keep this up...WOOT! I am a Health and Nutrition Consultant now and enjoy helping others with their health and nutritional needs. I guess that about covers everything about me. I look forward to getting to know you all. If you have any questions feel free to ask =)

Welcome to the board. I hope you enjoy it here.
I have an Aunt who is Diabetic. She did well most of her life, but finally was let go from a job she loved because of it, and is on disability now.

Thanks so much for the welcome! I love meeting new people, so I'm sure I'll love it here as well. Sorry your aunt was let go from her job, but happy she is able to get disability for her illness. Diabetes is hard to get under control and then keep it controlled. I struggled for the last 5 years but I'm doing well now. Becoming ill is the worst setback for a diabetic because it takes longer to recover. I had to quit my last job because of a simple sinus infection, and my benefits hadn't set in yet. I was working 40 hrs a week and it was too difficult to set an appt up with my physicians around my work schedule. The problem with the job was that if you miss 7 days, you got 3 days suspension without pay, and on the 8th day you were terminated. At the time, my health was more important for me than my job. Like I said, recovering is harder for a Diabetic and then you have to work closely with your physicians because there are medications you just cannot take. How is your aunt doing now?

Welcome! My mom is a diabetic, and simply will not do what it takes to get it under control. We had to talk her into letting the doctor put her in the hospital when her number got up to 500. By the time she gave in, it was up to 800 - she was lucky she didn't go into shock. When I talk to her, she tells me all about how she's making pies, having pot roast and all. She waits for hours after she gets up to eat, then wonders why her numbers spike. She will read very little about it. Just makes excuses.

My dad was also recently diagnosed as a diabetic, so I know my future and my kids' futures. I'm sure he is adjusting a little, but knowing how stubborn he is, not enough. He recently fought prostate cancer, too, and had chemo rip him up, so he's got double whammies, yet refuses to slow down.

I'm glad you have been proactive and gotten yours under control. It seems a disease where education is the biggest factor.

Check out all of our forums and you will find ways to save, along with a health forum to help motivate! Enjoy!
