It's me!!!

Hi all...my name is Christie. I am a 35 y.o. SAHM of 4 kiddos (Kelly--turning 10 in just a few weeks; Steven--age 5 (6 in Sept); Brooke (turning 4 on 6/17); and Michael (born 9/28/07). I've been married to my dh Mark since 1995.

We live in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on the border with Oklahoma. My dh is an engineering type, Navy veteran, and all around good guy

We are in the process of paying off our non-mortgage debt and thanks to tax refunds, have paid off more than $8000 in the last 6 weeks (including our van). We are now down to two student loans. And we are grateful to Dave Ramsey for it.

I am here because with 4 kids, 2 of which are in private (Catholic) school, we are trying to make the most of every dollar. I'm sure that's why a lot of you are here

I look forward to getting to know you all and contributing something to the forums.

I must confess that I only discovered the joys of her writing a couple of years ago...I just finished 'Mansfield Park.' That was the last of her novels I had not read (my favorite is 'Pride and Prejudice'). Right now I am reading a biography of her called 'Becoming Jane Austen,' which is the book the movie 'Becoming Jane' is based on (I haven't seen the movie yet). I highly recommend it if you haven't read it (I have it from the library)...it ties her life in quite well with the stories she wrote.

Thanks for the welcome all...gotta run and take the kids to school!

I'll have to read that one. It sounds great!

The other one I enjoyed was:
Amazon.com: Jane Austen (Penguin Lives): Carol Shields: Books

PS I'm a huge Dave Ramsey Fan too. After many years, we're now debt free except for the house and on baby step 6. It is possible. Welcome to Mommysavers!!!! This is a great place to get advice and share your tips and learn from others. It's a great group of ladies. Welcome aboard.

Whoo-hoo! They have that one in the library too!

We wish we had heard of Dave Ramsey a few years ago, and we would probably be debt-free except for the house by now. Unfortunately, we had to move 2x in 17 months due to a job loss by dh (moved from OK to IN in early 2006, dh's plant closed in summer of last year, but company offered him job here in AR), and that really messed us up. We knew that if we didn't start doing something differently, we wouldn't be able to keep the kids in Catholic school (we have a 3rd starting there in 2009!) or just keep up for that matter. We have our $1000EF (plus we're throwing in $60/mo for now) and we budget for EVERYTHING--that envelope system has helped control our spending. Right now we are getting caught up on things like getting our animals to the vet, getting vehicle maintenance done, insulating the attic, etc. I am cashing out my whole life policy and we bought some term insurance last month. Not to mention we had extensive hail damage last month which we have to deal with (the insurance paid out $9600), but we are still having to deal with contractors, or lack thereof, since everyone else is looking for them too).

Our lives seem a lot less stressful (still busy though, with 4 under the age of 10)!
