At CVS you can just sign up at the store and immediately use the card. Walgreen's is a bit different. To the best of my knowledge you either get register rewards (similar to ECBs) that you don't have to have a card for, or you can get monthly rebates which they can put on a Walgreen's gift card.
No, I actually use the stuff I buy. There are some people who DO buy things to make money off of them, but I don't buy anything unless I think I'll use it or can give it to someone I think can use it. I may not NEED it at the time I buy it, but I stockpile the things...so for instance, I always have tons of shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, pain reliever, etc. that I buy when it's cheap or free, then I don't have to pay full price when I do need it.
