This quote gave me an idea for a spinoff thread.

Our local Dollar Store has one of those bundles of 10 lip gloss that normally run $5 at other stores (I grabbed a few for stocking stuffers and as little gifts to my girls friends!), magazines (I am an addict and noticed they usually have magazines towards the end of the month), bags- love them, crafting supplies for the kids (always nice to have on hand!), they actually have a lot of things that can help make a nice basket gift for other people!

What is not worth it is shampoo, most of the cleaning supplies, the Little Debbie snacks they sell (you get more for your buck at other stores- more product for less!).

I was just gonna say, don't get sucked into the snack isle. They sell juice boxes, bottles of juice, and snacks for $1. Most of the time its stuff that either my kids don't like, OR, you can probably get cheaper at other stores.

The item that I go there for every week is Nature's Own bread. The grocery store, that is literally next door, has it for $2.99. We go through 2 loaves per week so, without spending any extra on gas, I save $4.00. I always find many more deals (soup, pasta, etc.) while I am there, but the bread gets me in the door.

I just can't believe people don't shop there.

I buy the kids scrapping adhesive from there too! Great since they blow right through it and it keeps them out of my monoadhesive.

They sale the sunday paper for $1.So if i buy 3 its $3 instead of 4.50 at walgreens. They also sale it through the week so if I dont get out on sunday I can get in on Monday.

Soy milk is less than half the regular price at our Dollar Tree. Pasta is usually a good price (2lbs for a dollar.) While other posters found shampoo and little debbie snacks cheaper elsewhere, around here Dollar Tree has the best deal. Some cleaning supplies are also cheaper for us at Dollar Tree. Toothpaste and aspirin are generally cheaper. Odd things like mushroom gravy are much cheaper (when I can find it!) I think you do have to keep aware of local prices to get a good deal, and also to be aware of the quality of the item you are buying. A watery shampoo is not going to go as far as a more concentrated product, for example. Gail

Because of the news reports about lead content in some imports, I do have a rule that anything that is meant to go in the mouth is off limits.

What do I buy at the $1 store? Mostly items that are meant to be disposable.

- Gift wrap, especially greeting cards
- summer toys
- fake flowers
- seasonal decor
- magazines
- Sunday newspaper
- hair goodies
- wash sacks for delicate laudry items (my absolute favorite item)
- educational workbooks and suduko puzzles
- craft supplies
- little storage items - I bought some pop-up totes that we still use to organize toys

I'm usually afraid to buy anything at the dollar store. Mostly because of the whole import/lead thing.
