Thanks for reminding me. I just printed DD's supply list from the school's website.

I DO NOT like looking for school supplies. Usually I cobble together several items that were leftover from last year or what we can find around the house. Do I really need to send 3-dozen pencils the first day of class?!?!? My husband remembers when it was the rich kids in school who had TWO pencils. Sometimes he had to borrow a pencil from a friend until his parents could get him a replacement.

Personally, I think the kids should be forced to empty their desks at the end of every quarter and take all the garbage home. Then we should send fresh supplies for the new quarter. This year DD emptied her desk at the end of the year and it took TWO loads in her backpack to get it all home. It was mostly garbage (she couldn't have thrown that out at school?) It took me a month to get through it all.

Your 3 dozen pencils reminds me of my DS first day of Kindergarten, We were told to bring 2 boxes of crayons and 24 pencils (already sharpened) as well as other things. On open house night the teacher had a gallon size bag full of brand new crayons, and TWO plastic shoe boxes of pencils. I was the first parent to the classroom that night.

I need to sit down with their lists and go through what I have in the stockpile (accumulated from prior sales) and what I can reuse from last year. I haven't seen any aisles set up here yet, but then we just got out acouple weeks ago.

Not here yet. Our school has only been out for 2 weeks. The year-round schools here aren't out until mid-July.

Our kids didn't get out until Friday (June 26). Went to Target yesterday and they already had an aisle of stuff for back to school. Sheesh, they used to at least wait til after the 4th of July.

They don't have to bring in pencils or crayons. Both her kindergarten teacher last year and then her first grade teacher this year made out little index cards of things the class needed. At Open House, if you wanted to get something, you take the card and send it in the first day. It was pretty cool, because if you couldn't, you didn't have to.

Some of the choices were: Crayola markers (if she wanted 3 sets and there were 3 seperate cards), large Ziploc bags, beads, colored pencils, graham crackers, (for the kids who may forget snack), tissues, hand sanitizer, all sorts of stuff in all different price ranges. Very nice idea, I thought.
