For inexpensive clothing I have found that McKids (I think its a Kmart brand) has held up. I got a ton of clothes from my best friend, who had 2 kids, she got them form her sister who'd had 2 kids and I just passed 0-12 month clothes on to my SIl after my 2 kids. So, the clothes are still in pretty good shape after being worn for 6-7 years. Most of the jeans look new and the dresses are in awesome condition. Now- i don;t know if the quality is still the same, but I'd try that brand if I had to buy my kids anything
Also, Health-tex, Carters (mind you its again from years ago but still holding up great), Sears

I have to say for price and quality I like Circo & Cherokee from Target and TKS from Sears. I have notcied that the resale on these is declining and the original prices are increasing. I shop alot on clearance so I pick things up for 50% to 75% off. Then I go for the GK by oshkosh; they hold up really well. I haven't been overly impressed with Old Navy girls except Jeans, but I do like Old Navy boys clothes. DS's winter wardeob for this year is mostly ON clearance from last season.
For Jeans I really like the Levi's from Target. I noticed that Kmart & Walmart are carrying these also now, but I'm not sure if they are the same quality.

I buy some things from Old Navy but I really don't think the quality is there at all...so for things that I know they'll grow out of in a few months, it's not really a big deal and I always get things on sale. We have found that shirts shrink bizarrely, colors fade, the sizing is strange for some things etc I also don't like all the 'junk' they put all over their clothes, even if it just says "Old Navy" across the front - we're just not interested in that! I think it's tacky looking...but that's me. Otherwise, it's just not worth the money IMO. Same for Children's Place, my experience has been it looks okay in the store and then you wash it and it looks horrible, fades, pills etc And I wash all our clothing very carefully and line dry almost all of it! Somehow that doesn't happen with anything from LLBean, LandsEnd, J Crew, Talbot's etc So IMO it's the quality. I honestly don't buy any clothing for anyone, aside from white socks or underwear at Target or Walmart. I guess we just don't find their clothing very appealing. Everyone is different!
I can usually get some basics at Talbot's, long sleeve tshirts, khaki pants etc I like the polos at Brooks Brothers, they hold up like iron for YEARS. They also get things at just a variety of places from major department stores, Nordstrom's, Neiman Marcus, Saks to chains like Abercrombie, J Crew, Gap to places like TJMaxx and Marshall's. It really just depends. I don't live far from two Outlet Malls, so I go to those ever so often, get good deals there and then I'm always looking and I buy stuff all year round...I never pay full price but I'm happy to pay a little more to have something that lasts.

I have to second the op who said that JCPenny is the one of the best, especialy the bongo jeans. I have even bought them second hand and they still look new after my dd is done with them. We like them so much that we put them away for the baby to have one day. Can you imagine paying less then 3.00 for a pair of jeans and they get woren by two kids.
Anyways, I save anything thats decent to pass on and it seams that most of what gets saved is all things I have gotten from JcPenny. Sears isnt bad either.

My dd is a skinny minnie. For me when I shop, I hit a few places but carters is my 1st choice. DD is 7 and a half mo. old and is not even in carters 3-6mo. yet (they just about fall off - and I think their clothes are made for tall &thin). I find that carters clothes fit her a lot longer than anywhere else. So I hit up the big sales and buy ahead... which dosn't work for everyone but considering dd's growth pattern hasn't changed since she was born, I almost never have a problem. I did end up with a few short sleeve shirts that it is too cold for but I just went to toys r us and bought some long sleeve onesies (2packs for less than the price of one with a coupon) to layer with. I get pjs from walmart unless carters is having a great deal because again she fits in theirs longer, making it worth a little extra.
I got 8 dresses, 5 onsies, 2 pairs of pants & 5 t-shirts for less than $50.00

As a mom of two boys, my all-time favorite store for high quality clothing is The Children's Place. I NEVER pay full price, and get most shirts for under five dollars. The jeans run a little large, but once you get the hang of their sizing, it's easy.
I belong to a consignment group, and always get my money back on these clothes and PJ's because they wear so well. The more you wash them, the softer they get! The tshirts also hold their shape very well.

we do most of our shopping at Marshalls, TCP and Limited too and Justice for girls!!
I only buy on sale or clearance and the clothes last longer then the Target ones!! (I quit buying there!! the shoes my kids used to complain about there feet hurting when they had those on! and the clothes well I would wash and they would be faded and the seems would be apart!! so I gave up unless its a shirt like dd had to have a HSM shirt!! etc!! those clothes seem a bit diff made!!! tho I did get them some wind pants this week for playing in during soccer when its cold!! soo well see!

I'm a gymboree fan, I wait until clearance and big sales and purchase it for less than walmart prices. Probably 90% of my kids wardrobe is gymbo. I get some from Kohls, like nightgowns for my daughter on sale for $4 regularly almost $30, Kohls and Gymbo have great sales!

I used to think Gymboree was cute back when my 14 yr old was little. Then they had all the nice bright primary color things. Now, I just don't care for them any more. I have never had any quality issues with the Target stuff my boys usually wear. I also just buy stuff where ever I see a good deal. Maybe my kids are not that hard on clothes because, except for sweatpants, I can pass my Target purchases from my 9 yr old to my 8 yr old to my 7 yr old to my 4 yr old and even down to my 3 yr old grandson without any problems!!!

The kidvantage program at Sears is great. If your child wears something out, they'll replace it! You can't beat that. I got my son Levi's jeans there this year and saved the receipts in case they do wear out.
I also like Gymboree for their quality. I would never buy it unless it is on sale. Their recent Circle of Friends sale had their sale items in the Target/Old Navy price range.
I buy TCP and Old Navy because they have the deepest markdowns. I figure at the prices I get things, they don't have to last very long. In some cases I'm pleasantly suprised, and find that their quality is just fine.
