I wanted to add that some stores like Stop & Shop and Shaws will reimburse you for the full price of the item if they ring it up wrong...you just have to go to the customer service department. We used to tell the cashier that something was on sale, she would still ring it up wrong, and then we would go to cust svc and get the item for free. Some stores have this policy, you just need to find it written near the entrance.
