Question Milk prices

I'm new on MommySavers and have recently started cutting back to save money. I am staying at home with the kids now and we are seriously missing my income! I've done great with coupons and, of course, Wal-mart matches other stores' prices. That's been my main savings.

My only trouble this week has been finding low milk prices. I can't find it in any of the sales papers. Does anyone know who has cheap milk this week? Store brand is fine.

And has anyone tried freezing milk? I have a huge freezer in the garage and was thinking about freezing the milk if I found it on sale. I know breast milk freezes for 6 months in the deep freezer but I don't know about whole milk.

Yes I have heard of people freezing milk. I have been told that you need to open the bottle first and take out maybe a teaspoon because it will expand when frozen. But it freezes fine and tastes fine defrosted.

I haven't frozen milk; however, I believe you need to take more than 1 teaspoon out. Probably more like a cup. Also, when it defrosts in the fridge you will need to shake it well to get it combined properly.

I do not buy my milk at the grocery stores anymore. A price of a gallon of 1% is around $3.99 up to $4.99. So I buy my milk at the convience store (like Honey farms) or gas stations that have a mini-mart. I can get milk for $2.89 or $2.99 a gallon.

I have 2nd fridge downstairs so I buy 3-4 gallons at a time (depending upon expiration date).

I was wondering about freezing milk as well, I know I have read some posts on it here so I was going to try to search those out. I agree with
2littleonesmommy, I found out that buying it at gas stations or convience stores it can be cheaper than most of the grocery stores, including Wal-mart. Some of the gas stations even have milk clubs & they give you a punch card & when you buy so many (maybe 10-12 gallons) they give you a free one, every little bit helps! Welcome to Mommysavers, you will love this site, everyone here is so helpful, I have learned alot.

I'm not sure what you condiser a good price but Ingles has their Laura Lynn brand for 3.08. That's as good as it gets here is Georgia. It's really depressing when you look next door and see about 200 milk cows and we can't figure out why milk is so exspensive!

I freeze milk all the time. You do need to take out about a cup. It takes a while to thaw too so remove it from the freezer 1-2 days before you need it. It tastes fine once de-thawed. In my area, I will not pay more than $2.50/gallon, I stock up at or below that price. Last year I would never pay more than $1.88/gallon. Those were the good old days. Good luck!

I only purchase milk in our grocery store. My own personal experience has been that the milk seems to taste "funky", this happened twice when I bought it at Walmart, so I won't be buying it there anymore. I don't know, maybe too many people open up those refrigerated cases and the milk just is not fresh. Market Basket in Ma usually has milk for $2.89-$2.99 a gallon.

I've frozen milk many times. I never poured any out and didn't have a problem. There's no difference in taste once it thaws-- once it DOES thaw. My only complaint was that it took forever to defrost.
