Hi all. Well originally I thought that selling crafts from home was cheesy, but recently I recieved a craft kit in the mail that i did with my daughter and the end result was really cute. I had an idea that could easily decorate jewelry boxes and sell them online. Does anyone do something similar to this? I'm always looking for diff. business ideas and this seems like a good one!

I used to make boutique hair bows and stuff for little girls. that was fairly enjoyable, kind of a stress relief at time. BUT its very time consuming, and I found I wasn't making as much money as I was spending on supplies. I sold my bows on the boards, loops, and ebay and did okay for a while, when my girls were younger. They are older now and want nothing to do with bows at all, so I really don't get into it anymore. I will do it in the fall for the cheerleaders, but thats about it.

I've been selling crafts as my major source of income for 20+ years. I do some from home, selling online, but my major sales are from craft fairs.

The last few years have been really lean for craft sales. To be honest, this past year I didn't even do any craft fairs, it wasn't worth it to me to try and sell right now. People are tight fisted with their money in these economic times.

That doesn't mean you can't make money, it just means you have to be smart about it, find something new and unusual and find the right places to sell it.

I'm focusing more on my new biz and I'll throw in a few craft fairs when I have the energy and time to do it.

I've tried to sell my jewelry, but so far I have yet to be successsfull in thinking of it as an source of extra income. I have my stuff in a consignment store, I've tried etsy.com and ebay, I've set up a booth in town at a fair ( I only sold 3 pairs and that pretty much paid for my kids snacks drinks and armbands to play, I walked away not making any kind of profit. I was luckly that the lady in charge of the booth sales let me try it for free since it was my first time so I did not have to spend the $100.00 required for the booth, I would of totally been bummed if had.

Its not that my jewelry is not nice, or even unique, Maybe I just don't know how to really sell it myself. I love being crafty and creating my items but when it comes to selling it I am so lost.
