I'm reading a work-at-home book that's been really helpful to me. It's The Work at Home Success Bible by Leslie Truex. This book helps you inventory your interests, strengths, and hobbies to determine what sort of work might be right for you. It helps you stay away from scams and directs you to legit websites.
There's information here on everything from home offices to taxes. If you want to run a business from your home, find someone to hire you to work from home, this is the book to read. What's been most useful to me about this book is the information on starting your own business online. This book has been a great introduction to making a website, marketing the website, and making money from ads placed on your website. I'd never heard of "contextual ads" or "affiliate programs" before reading this book, but the book explained these very clearly. The author gives specific recommendations (including which web host she uses) for each aspect of an online business. I do not have any sort of background in business or in web design, but reading this book has given me the confidence to read more about the specific topics that I was introduced to there.
Having said that, this is the only work at home book I've read, so I can't compare it to others. I picked it off the shelf because it said it was "The complete guide for moms" and because it was published very recently. But this book gave me a great introduction to the many work-at-home options, so I won't be purchasing any other work-at-home books-- I'm now ready to read more about the specific opportunities from the book that seem to be the best fit for me.
