I've done it in the past. It seems to work better with big ticket items, I had a crazy old lady that wanted me to sell her salt and pepper shakers and wouldn't take less than $100 for all of them. I could barely get it to move higher than $12. As much as I tried to convince her, she just didn't get it.
I charge 25% of the auction Final Value, plus they pay your fees for you. The buyer pays shipping. If you are selling little things, it obvioulsy won't work out well for the client, after you take all your fees, they'll be left with nothing. I felt so guilty for the little old lady I ended up paying all the fees and only took my seller fee. You can't do business that way.
I have a friend on another board that does this and does really well. She has muliple clients that send her gymbo and gap stuff, lots of brand name stuff. Last month she sold over $10K work of merchendise, I'm NOT kidding!! One person alone spent almost $1000 with her. She keeps 25% of that, so it was a pretty good payday for all that work, plus they paid all her fees.
And to be honest, it is ALOT of work. She was listing about 100 auctions EVERY day, recieving payment, shipping. Picture taking, editing, writing up auctions, searching line names.....
