Or cutting our phone out completely. I have been tempted to do that as it is. That would be an instant $25 a month. Cable would be another $90 (with internet). That would bite though! But, I would do it instead of going into debt.

I would pick up a bunch of hours at the nursing home at my on call job. I am barely working there now that I also work full time, but I could work evenings and weekends easily if I needed to. We also could sell some things or let dd's car get reposesed.

I recently posted a thread about eliminating extra expenses. I decided to cut out a few hundred bucks for our debt snowball plan. Here is what I did:
Canceled Netflix
Canceled XM radio
Reduced cable by $40 a month
Reduced 401k by $200 a month until we are caught up on the debt snowball
Reduced college savings by $100 a month until we are caught up on the debt snowball
Reduced convenience items as much as possible.
STAY OUT OF THE STORE (online and in store). I went to Target & Walmart on Friday. I spent $35 but I only got things we needed.

We have already cut so much lately. We don't have cable, no cell phones (dh has one for work paid by his employer), got rid of one car, installed a clothes line, etc.
Still we could cut some more. I could cut out internet (23$/month) but since I don't have a car anymore trying to use a free service somewhere would be hard for me. We could cut our monthly savings (65$/month) but it's already so low. I'm still cutting on our groceries. Just by being careful I cut out almost 20$ to 50$ per week. Still there are some corners I'm not ready to cut for the quality of our food.
I could get a part time job but my kids are still at home (under 3 yrs) and I really want to be there for them.

we could cut out internet/cable landline phone that would give us about 100 bucks or there is always a part time job or donating plasma for 240 bucks a month.

These are some things dh and I have done to cut expenses:
dry clean clothes at home using dryel kit
eliminated one cell phone
went to basic satellite plan
dh takes leftovers for lunch instead of eating out
reduced amount put in 401k by about $200/month
I cut down on buying convenience foods, reduced sodas purchased
wash vehicles ourselves

We could easily cut hundreds right now, though my dh would not be happy and would rather work overtime. I finally got him to agree to getting rid of sirrius and cancelled blockbuster online this month, not b/c we had to but b/c we weren't using it that much and it was a waste. Any extra money that you are wasting would be better invested. We could cancel his cell b/c his work got him a blackberry but I don't think he's suppose to make personal calls on it so we keep his cell. We don't have a land line so I can't get rid of my cell that is what we use for a home phone. We don't have cable now just basic channels, but he's asking for cable now that i cut his movies. We could get rid of alot of things, eating out, he's lunches out, etc. But he won't cooperate with those. There is alot we could sell to, and I do, I'm on craigslist and ebay all the time. Grocery budget would be easy to cut if I stopped organic healthy foods but I won't do that either. Just depends on what's important to you personally.

ITA! Clothing purchases would also be an area that would get me there.

Well we're so tight as it is, but if we had to do it just once, we would have to slash our grocery budget to the point where we'd be eating PBJ or ramen noodles for lunch daily and tuna casserole, spaghetti, and mac/cheese for dinner every night. DH would have to bum a ride to work with his mother on the days their shifts coincided, and then wait around for her to give him a ride back home, so we could save money on gas. We'd cancel Netflix and then I'd call on our medical bills and ask for a month's grace period b'c we had financial difficulty and couldn't pay that month. We may get $200-$250 out of doing all that, but we couldn't do it on a monthly basis. If we had to have that extra per month, I'd get a part-time job working on opposite shifts as DH. (though I'd hate it b'c I wouldnt' be spending time with DH - but if it had to be done, it would)
