Here is another one. Last week my brother almost lost $4000 on a Mystery Shopping scam.

Mystery Shopping!

Pyramid schemes . Some job which sounds too good to be true which however requires a "small" payement upfront to reap big profits .

I have run into a few lately, but one that was posted by another WAHM site as approved was surprisingly a scam, "Plaza Marketing Group" - was even listed on Career Builder which I reported to them that it was actually just a referring site. They send you an email with a list of 'jobs' that you can contact and see if they are hiring - sure didn't seem worth even $12.95 to me! Shameful!
I found out they were a scam, like the others, by searching Google for info - you can usually find out what you need to know

Mary Kay and the like. Any job where you NEED to recruit people to your team to make more money and NEED an inventory...is nothing but a money losing scheme. I know I tried it. I was the TOP in my unit and I made nothing.... my poor director walks the walk and talks the talk about how much she makes, but if you add up all the numbers, she's buying tons more than she's selling. I got out before I lost my shirt. It's a scam and full of 1/2 truths.

I've not heard of Plaza Marketing, but I've mentioned Plaza Research, that pays you for your opinion - they are face-to-face group survey meetings, and I usually make $75-$125 per visit. Just wish I could get more of them! Each survey has a different qualifier.

I sold Beauticontrol, and that's exactly what I found. My director would hype how much money they make, and then in other conversations she talks about how they are going broke because her dh's business wasn't going well, and they were seriously looking at bankruptcy. She worked her butt off, but in the end, most of the $ went to her inventory.

I agree. I tried Partylite, and Tupperware, it just doesn't work. The girl that recruited me into Partylite made it her full time job. But Hello! That meant her working just about every night, driving hours to a demonstration, and paperwork up the wazoo. The one successful party I did have, I made a little over $80, but it was alot of work to get there. And there was a constant push to recruit people and have all the latest product on hand.

I joined Tupperware on a whim, it was pretty cheap to join, and I thought I could just do most of it online, most of the paperwork was on line, but again, there was always that push to recruit people and have the latest product on hand. They also assured you that "Tupperware sells itself!", but of course, you only get out of it, what you put into it. Which for me wasn't very much, so I went ahead and dropped out after the first few months.

One thing i have discovered is that some of these scamming groups will duplicate the name of a reputable company, so that if you google them, all this terrific stuff will come up about the company. The company that my brother dealt with was Gapbusters, so when I tried to investigate for him, a ton of wonderful things were posted online about this company. Until I invtigated further and realized that there were 2 companies named Gapbuster, one was Gapbuster INC, and the other was Gapbuster Worldwide. And of course, he got roped into the scam one.

I use to sell for Mary Kay and didnt find it to be a scam at all! I made money. You dont have to buy inventory you can simply just place orders as needed. If you do buy inventory and decide to quit they do buy it back at 90% of the cost. So its really (to me) a pretty safe investment. I havent sold for them in a long time b/c during my last pregnancy I was on bedrest.

I just wanted to speak up for mary kay b/c although if you do recruit you can make more money you dont have to, to have a good decent business and extra income.

Now i have sold many things..... I dont recommend anything where you have to meet a quota to make money like sale 4 vacuums a month....sounds easy enough but when they are 1800$ vacuums its alot harder plus you spend sooo much time 50+ hrs a weeks travelling around trying to sell them.

Any mystery shopping job that involves cars or Western Union is run out of Nigeria and is a definite scam. They run ads in the local paper and look very official.

I spent 2 hours working on an application for a wah job of call center. I really thought it was legit. Then in the end I found out to finish the process I had to pay. what a bummer. It's like those "modeling agencies" you have to pay upfront.
