Hope this is in the right place...
I have recently been discussing with DH that we should open a second hand store. I am an avid garage/rummage saler and have been selling on Ebay for years. My city has a lot of second hand shoppers like me but very few second hand stores. There are only two that do good business: one is a thrift store like Goodwill (which has gotten so pricey that people only shop there on the 50% off days) and another that is more upscale name brands and a little pricey as well. I would like to open a store without taking out any loans and being able to float costs for 6 months. My DH thinks I am a little nutty because we have a lot of expenses, a wedding to pay for, and he is switching jobs to lower pay in 7 months. Does any one have experience opening a business? I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of being my own boss versus taking the risk of collecting inventory, etc. Any suggestions are appreciated!
