I decided that I was going to sell Avon last October as a way to bring in some extra income. I have only really sold to close friends and family and made a couple bucks here and there..... granted I haven't been the best at getting out all the books etc.
I am looking for any tips that I can get on how I can possibly turn this hobby into a way of bringing in some extra income.
So if anyone is selling Avon Successfully and wishes to share some secrets please let me know.

I started selling last September. My best customers are the teachers from my kids daycare. I haven't done the best job of getting books out either but since I've just become a SAHM I'm hoping to do more....ok don't laugh everyone...I know i'm probably disillusioned - LOL.
I did get my books into the local Curves a couple campaigns ago - their other rep stopped going and the Curves owner lives down the street from me.
I've also gotten 4 customers from my website.
I think it's really about getting your books out. I do find that being able to sell in a group setting helps...the girls at daycare all gather and look at each other's purchases when I deliver...which generates more interest. My kids are leaving daycare next week so I need to see if one of my customers will be a helper....or else I won't be doing very much business myself!
Good luck!

I pretty much only sell to friends and family, but I do have 2 helpers that take orders at work. I have found that having helpers is a great way to get extra orders without having to deliver all those orders. I just bag them and drop them off with the helper. Good luck gaining more business.

I agree with the helper idea. I give one of my helpers 10% of whatever she brings me in sales towards her own orders - she generally brings me 75 - 150 in orders every other campaign. And she generally pays for the all of her friends orders with one check then collects from them afterwards....way easy for me - plus free Avon for her without as much work as being a rep.

Last year I became Honor Society with Avon ($30,000 in sales in one year). It was a lot of work, and it does take a considerable amount of time.
Hmmm... my main tips:
- Consistency. People want to know that you will be there with books for them, set a schedule for yourself and get those books out on THAT day.
- When you say something, do it. If you want to kill your business fast, tell someone you are going to meet them, then don't show up. BAD!!!
- Have a referral system. When someone brings you a new customer who places an order over $25, find a way to "reward" her.
- Keep a system so they return to you. I did Avon bucks. For every $25 they spent, they got one "Avon buck". This way, people are more likely to return to me then to switch reps.
- Do calls to the people who you drop off books to. It might seem annoying but so many times people have orders and forget to call you.
- Treat people right, especially offices and such... they will bring their friends to you eventually.
If I think of anything else, I will post it. Good luck!

I did sell, but my van broke, and I moved a little further away, so I took a break. I have a vehicle again, but I homeschool, and have 4 kids so I decided that it would be a very long break.
But I just wanted to tell you that kickstartyouravon is an awesome yahoo group with lots of support and ideas, and imo better than the help at the avon boards, with lots less drama.

Oh yeah, go to the meetings! They are so fun, and you get free stuff. Just don't take any advanced orders, unless you are positive you will be able to sell the stuff. Maybe not all the meetings are the same, but at our district meetings, we got something free each time we went, and they had a table full of stuff that you could look at to see what things looked like upclose. And then they would let people pick things off the table for different reasons. First avon meeting? Pick a gift. Your birthday that month, pick a gift. Certain sales amounts, pick a gift. Fun, fun, fun.

I've been thinking about Avon but haven't looked into it much yet. Their website isn't much help - it just basically says "Sell Avon and make money! Yay!" lol
So, for those of you that do it, how's it work? Do you just pass out the books, take orders, deliver the stuff when it comes...or is there more to it than that? How are you paid/how much do you make?
Thanks.

I would also be interested in any hidden fees/expenses - like, how much do catalogs cost, order forms, etc. How do you find out about meetings?? Can you go to an Avon meeting before signing up?

I sell Avon - but don't really do it to make money! I should - but haven't really gotten there yet. I basically sell to a small group of friends and use the discount to buy my own items. There are no order forms if you just order online. And - there is a great deal if you service at least one customer per campaign from your site then they waive the website fee of $7.50. You can purchase samples if you want, but they are really inexpensive ($1 or so). I have been involved with other home businesses and have to say that Avon is the only one that didn't cost me an arm and a leg for all of the "extras". Plus, its only $10 to sign up and for your first 3 or 4 campaigns you can earn 50% profit.
