Pardon the implied word in my title but I'm angry.

Alright, so... the end of April I became a Mary Kay consultant. It started out ok, I was kind of excited but at the moment... I am not. I have no desire what-so-ever to try and get together with people and sell those products.
Other than that... my husband just got a new job at the end of May at the same place he was working, but the way it worked, he got his paycheck and a week later he got half a paycheck and wasn't paid again for a month. we just got that paycheck but, because of that, and some other little things... money is screwed up right now.

I want to have a sale on my Mary Kay inventory to get some of that money back that I spent on it, and then quit. I think at the moment, I'd rather get a job elsewhere and work on the weekends, and maybe a day during the week. It will be a regular paycheck for me. Mary Kay isn't a guarantee. I can schedule a million facials and classes, it doesn't mean they'll buy anything from me. And that extra money would really help.

I emailed my 'director' and told her I may quit and asked for more information. we've sent a few emails and she's ticking me off. "Oh, I was surprised to hear this. You realize you've only been doing this for 2 months?" "If money is the issue I don't understand why you don't get our there and work MK, and sell products"
I had also mentioned my daugther. "What kind of job can you get without leaving your daughter?"
Well, none with my skill level. But if I got a job on the weekends, and did even just one night during the week... I could leave her with my husband. With MK, I have to leave her with someone else during the day while I have my appointments because most of the ppl aren't available later in the day.

Then my recruiter called just a few minutes ago to talk to me. She said some of the same things, like they're just trying to push me to not quit. And she actually said something along the lines of "knowing what's best."

Aside from money, other things are going on with my life that I'm not going to talk to either of them about.

They're like pushy telemarketers.

(If this needs to be edited or deleted because of specifics in here like the Company I work for, feel free to do what you need to)

I feel for you- i would just try to sell the stuff on craigslist or ebay- even here...
i am / was an active Longaberger consultant and it is too pricey and like you said no guaruntees....
I actually got an email from our leader that suggested we put thru our own 350 dollar show to make sure it was done so we were considered "team players" WTH????

I'm sorry to hear you are having such a hard time! I had a lady ask me over for a MK facial once, and afterwards I just wanted to buy a product or 2, but she was extremely pushy and kept trying to get me to start selling the products. So I know what you mean. Maybe you could schedule a couple of parties on the weekends when your dh can stay with your child, that way you could at least try to get some of the money back that you put into it. If you really don't think you want to do it, then you should look into finding another job, like you said, so that you would have a steady paycheck. If you are having money issues, that would be better for you in the long run, since like you mentioned, with selling MK you never know what you are going to make or how much you will sell at a party. Hope things get better for you soon.

I didn't think about selling the stuff on ebay or craig's list, that may even be better for you if you don't want to bother with a party!

Ah, yes, the pink cult. I agree, ebay or craigslist your product. You will have to be firm with your director on it being over or avoid her all together. She'll get the point eventually. Good luck and I'm sorry you have to put up with such a pushy person.

I would just ignore their comments and do whatever you want. They are just out to make money for the company, and have no clue what is best for you.

Hi! I am a MK consultant. I totally understand what you are saying. I've been in long enough that I have lots of repeat customers that make it worthwhile for me to keep up with it! However, I have stopped doing classes for right now b/c you are right there are no guarantees about selling anything.

That being said have you done your "power start"? I am surprised that you only have people available for shows/classes during the day. Could you have them at your home and turn on a video for your kids? I am not trying to keep you "in" just help you think out of the box. I've been doing this biz for awhile Could you get a friend to do a Girls Night Out some weekend and do facials/glamour and go out? Remember it is easier to try to sell it like this.

PM me if you have any questions/need any ideas. Don't worry about your director (I don't even hear from mine anymore) she has probably lost tons of consultants - do what is best for you but remember MK IS a LOT of fun and you CAN make great $$$!

I can feel your frustration. I did the same thing. I tried MK & it didn't work. I would call the main phone number for them & skip over all your directors and crap. Tell them you want to return your product. You have a year to return your stuff and get a refund. The only catch is that you can NEVER be a MK rep again. HTH. Let me know if you have any questions since I have done this before.

If you don't want to be a independent beauty consultant anymore, you can contact MK corporate and return your products for 90% of their value.

I am technically still a rep, but I'm inactive and I'm sitting on a lot of product since the switch over to all new cosmetic products. I was the top in sales in my unit, but in doing so I had to sacrifice my family to do so. I went back to school last summer and when I questioned my director about all the rumored product changes, she denied knowing anything about. Of course at that time I was completely engrossed in my graduate courses and didn't have time for MK and as a result didn't sell all of my inventory. So I did a lot of soul searching and figured it wasn't for me anymore. I also did a little bit of number crunching and figured out that in order for my director to stay a director she was "buying" the rest of the unit production herself. I do still hear from her and she's always trying to convince me to come back because I did so well....but my family comes first.

I would google pinktruth if I were you. I wish I had found it before I invested so much time and money into MK.

Oh Boy!!

I'm a leader in an other direct sales company and one of the first things I ask when I sign a new start up is what do they want from this business?? 1 show a month or 10? Grow a team or not.. This way I know how to help each girl with her goals..

You can make some great money in direct sales.. Sometimes it also takes a few months to figure out how your going to make it work. Maybe you could team up with an other group/networking that isn't so pushy to get ideas..

I know some companies have policys that if you sell on ebay it will terminate your contract with them.

pm me if you'd like some info on how to get your business going if you decide to stick it out.. Even though I'm with a differant company, it is all pretty much the same!!
Good Luck!!!
