I am an LPN I work in family practice. I love the babies that come in and I really love to help the new moms. With advice, a shoulder to lean on, whatever they need. I also like to cook and I love to care for newborns or young babies. I had a business idea that I could offer a new mom service. People could get the mother gift certificates or whatever and for a certian price I could bring a meal for the parents and do child care at the moms house for about two hours. I could at the same time answer questions for the mother and maybe I could I also get my lactation consultant or something. I would be there to help for the two hours.
Does this sound like a crazy idea? Do you think that people would actually use the service?

I think it is a great ideal!

There are a lot of new mothers out there that have no family or friends near by. Since a lot of people have had to relocate with their jobs and what with a lot of military familys out there.

I would give it a try!

I would definitely do it. It would be nice if you had a recommendation from a hospital/doctors office so you could give out flyers to the new moms. I would have loved in home help to ask questions or anything. When I was a brand new mom it was all I could do to shower and eat, let alone go to the doctor to ask questions and cook dinner. Best of luck!

There is a service here started by a RN who is also a Lactation Consultant called Papoose, which is basically support for new moms who need it! Breastfeeding, parenting, budgeting and stuff like that. The LC is the one that helped me when I had my girls and she was wonderful. She and a few other nurses work together on this project. I'm sure if you looked into it, you might be able to get some grants to get started.

I think if your heart is in it then you should do it. I remember being a new mother and any help that I received was always appreciated.

I would look at it from the legal aspect first
Will you be insured?
What type of insurance would you need?
Would you need a food license to bring food to others house that they are paying for?
What would you do with your kids?
What would your hours be?
Would you offer night care? (like a night nurse)
How would you come up with a price?

It seems as though alot of people would use this service, but then again, people also SUE FOR LITTLE REASON THESE DAYS!!!!!

it sounds like a great idea.

there is a service around here that hires "homemakers" for pregnant women ONLY and women who have infants UNDER three months old.

the homemakers have to help mommy out in any way she needs...shopping, doctor appointments, changing baby.

it really comes in handy for moms who have alot of pain after birth. the woman who interviewed me for the position of homemaker (i later turned it down for another job), said that's where she gets the most customers...from moms who have alot of pain from delivering baby, and have trouble standing up to cook, make formula, change baby, etc. etc.

so i think it's a good idea, definitely
