So what do you think about paying for classes to help get your work at home idea off the ground?

In my case I am still looking to do more with my knitting addiction. What I love about my hobby is that its a creative outlet. So I am thinking of getting into writing and selling my own designs. I am also looking into teaching outside the home in the evenings and weekends. This Fall I have a paying job teaching 6 knitting classes at a local craft store.
Today I was looking around and found a few resources that could help me. A knitting convention a few hours from my home is offering a professional instructor Certification class. The convention also offers classes on self publishing patterns, Professional design and how to market and make your designs make money. The problem is the price 105 for the teaching (10 hour intensive course) and 70 for the other two. I would just wait for another convention but these classes are offered in my home town so room, board and child care are all free for me to spend the time.

What whould you do?

In your case, the classes sound pretty reasonably priced for what you'll get. Plus, you'll come out with a certification. I'd go for it! Good luck!

I would definitely take the courses. Professional training is invaluable, and if you are serious about turning this into a money-making job, proper training can help you become more successful. I truly believe the difference in a WAH "hobby" and a WAH "job" is how you approach it - training is required for any job.

Will the certification increase your future income or give you opportunities to teach at places that may not hire you otherwise? If so, it will pay for itself. And remember, if you make any income this year from your business the training will be tax deductible.

Well said. I'm always an advocate for investing in yourself!
