Dh and I have decided that I'm going to officially quit my job at the end of August. We decided that its just too much for me to work full time and be to work for 6 am every day, and every other weekend, when he has to travel quite often. When I took this full time position, he didn't travel at all. It was after I started doing this job for a few months, his boss started offering him all kinds of travel ops. And we need for him to travel becuase he gets large amounts of OT when he does, on top of a travel incentive which comes out to quite a bit at the end of the month.

I was getting help from my mom and my MIL, but its just too much for them. They can't be at my house that early in the am so I can go to work, then get the kids up and ready for school. Mil ends up taking Cameron for the rest of the day. She will be 71 this year and she has decided its just too much for her to do all of this. I don't want to quit my job, but I see this as no other option.

NOW the dilemna, we still need my income. There are quite a few things we can cut back on, but we recently took out a personal loan to pay for dd's braces, we got new windows this year we are still paying on, and our car still has a few payments on it.

I can't work pt because ds doesn't go to school for a full day. And there is no bus service at this preschool, its parent drop off and pick up. Ds gets dropped off at 8:30 and picked up at 11. I need to be available for that 4 days a week. SO that rules out getting a pt job for me, which was orignally the plan.

SO I need a job that I can do at home, on my computer. Dh mentioned medical transcription, does anyone do that? What sort of training did you get for that?

Any other ideas?? I was thinking of that Work at home agent thingy too, I think I applied once before but I didn't pass the screening test and was turned down.

What about a concierge service for Moms who work? As you ar out and about with your little one anyway, how about them emailing you a grocery list, and you do their shopping? Or collecting dry cleaning? Or mailing their stuff? Or dog walking? (you could pack on those steps on your ped in no time)or collecting prescriptions? OR gift wrapping?

Those are some good suggestions thanks! Not sure if I'm cut out for stuff like that though.

I WAS thinking of maybe a housecleaning business. If I did it once or twice a week, I could take my little one with me and park him in front of a tv while I scrub someone's toilet. Thing is I HATE cleaning my own toliet, I'm not sure I could do someone elses.

Cleaning companies are hard to come by. Most people want someone who is insured and bonded. You have to have a license and pay taxes. My husband thought it would be easy too, but he found out in the end it takes a lot more work to make commercially. If you have some friends that would like help, you would be better off. Good luck to you!!

Go ahead and try ChaCha Missy.

They are a great company to work for as well, that involves no phone work.

Have you thought about direct sales?? You really can make money at it! I have been selling for 2 1/2 years.. I never thought that I could do something like this, but after baby #2, I wanted to get out of the house once and a while and we needed more money for me to stay home.

I'm a big fan of eBay!! I quit my full-time salary job when I had my son almost 5 years ago and have made up my part of the income on eBay. It is SO EASY once you get going. Start with selling extra stuff around the house..clothing, toys, anything. Once you've sold everything that's not nailed down (trust me, it's addicting LOL) you can go to yard sales, Good Will, etc. and get stuff cheap and sell it for good money. If you have trouble finding things to sell you can sell for other people and take a percentage. I have done all of the above and it has allowed me to stay home with my son..love it! Good luck!

I tried cashcrate, and a few others, and it sounds great but here is my experience. You click to do a survey and get paid, as you go through the survey you have to choose 'offers' to complete the survey and most of them want you to sign up for something that will cost you money and they want your cc #. I tried the bath and body survery, the running shoes survey and a few others that say no credit card required. In order to finish the survey you have to pay for something. Unless I'm doing something wrong, but it keeps happening to me. I know people were talking about cha-cha before but I haven't tried it yet.

Here's what I did. I started mentioning to my friends that I was interested in making some extra money from home and if they knew of anything please to let me know. My one friend works for a large brokerage and they had me stuff envelopes 2x a month. It paid by the sheet 2cents for the first and then 1 cent after. Usually about 5 sheets times 1500 envelopes, made an extra $75 2x a month. Not much, but I could do it watching tv or sitting in the car waiting to pick the kids up from school (had to be really organized and the front seat had to be food free).

Another friend worked for a company that counted their own inventory by hand and needed someone to tally the sheets. I did them at home on my computer. That led to entering names onto their mailing list - from home at my leisure - the computer clocked my time. Now I work for them in the office about 6 hours a week and do various things from home for them. I can work about 20 hours a week. The pay is nowhere near what I would be making FT or even PT at an office but the schedule is unbeatable.

Good luck and remember to just let EVERYONE know.
