It seems that all the schools now expect kids to raise money by selling something. It's got its pros and cons.

Do you assist your kid with tips on how to sell?

Do you have your kids help you in your business?

My friend's son is baking cookies every Friday (with his dad's help) and selling them through the Farmer's Market. He is saving the money (the profits) for a family they help in Africa but it sounds like he is learning a lot.

I don't allow my kids to sell the items that the school "pushes" them to sell! The items are WAY overpriced and usually junky!

I do allow them to sell for the programs that are only funded by the raised money though........like scouts, their music programs, baseball teams, etc.***

***they only are allowed to ask certain family members though.

We don't always participate in fundraisers, but I do believe in teaching marketing skills (I was a former marketing major).

My daughter is now into making her own craft items. We're talking about ways we can sell them to make money. It's a great education. We're also talking about how much she needs to charge to make a profit, places she can sell, how much she'll make per hour based on how long it take her to make them, etc.

I sell on eBay and my son knows that's what I do to make money. He loves to help me pack stuff up and I'm sure it won't be long before he wants to help more. He seems very interested. I learned what I know from MY parents and I would be really excited if DS has the entrepreneur gene too! LOL

Wow! These are great! Selling is such a valuable tool in life, including just knowing how to sell yourself in an interview or your ideas in class or at work. And Mel, selling to help others is so great! How exciting, too, for them to see the fruits of their labor!
