A few people have mentioned that they did face painting. Have you ever done it as a business? What was your experience? I'm considering do it.

I think it could be a good business.

I hired a lady to come to our Easter Egg Hunt this year. I'm thinking i ended up paying her about $60....or was it $40???? Hmmmmmm i'll have to check that out for you....
But then she got a friend of mine's business for a birthday party too.

I plan on calling her next year to do the hunt again.

I say go for it....it's a cheap business to get into that's for sure.

It sounds like a fun, easy idea, but think about how needed it really is. If it's not repeat enough, you won't make much money at it. Also, if your needed at a party way across town, there's always the gas cost to consider which will bring your net earnings way down. Sorry to be a downer. Just thinking it through logically. Also in these tougher economic times, people may be doing away with the extras like that.

Direct sales and entertainment related things don't do as well in our economic times. People are saving their money for the food costs that have risen.

If you want to get into a business, pick one that has to do with "needs." Good luck whatever you decide!

I think it sounds like a great idea if you have the ability to paint. There wouldn't be a huge start up -- supplies and business cards ... but what else? It doesn't sound like something you would need a license for or insurance. Maybe have a criminal background check on file for anyone that might want it. But with fair time coming up -- not to mention back to school and all the extras that will go with that. And the holiday season coming up. I don't think you'll be able to retire to Mexico with it! But I'm sure it would bring in a bit of extra income.

Maybe you could expand on it, Some people do a themed b-day party buisness, go to familys home, take themed items, princess crowns, dress up clothes, knights , cowboy/cowgirl. Not sure of all the specifics but had seen it advertised

This does sound like a cute idea!

Even if you don't think it would be a lucrative carreer move, I think you could have FUN doing it. Try it out!

I think it would be a great idea.. You get what you put into it.. If you want to make more $$ you will have to advertise.. If you run it as a legit business you can get so many tax right offs. advertising, car, mileage, supplies..

I sorry I have to disagree.. I'm in direct sales and my team is still selling $20,000 to $30,000 a month. Yes it my have to be done in more shows. But people are still spending. I think people are spending in a differant way. Instead of going away with the girls they will host a girls night in. The same with going to the movies, they might not go on vaccation but do a family night at the movies.

This could be a good thing with face painting parties. Some parents will decide to do this at their home vs going to chuky cheese or pump it up.. They would be saving.

There is a business about a half hour from me that does full birthday parties. They typically do them at their site (they have a "store" space), but for like $50, they'll come to your desired location. If there is any place like that around you, approach them and ask if you can promote through them to all these families that are wanting to buy a bday party like this. They are doing very well and have a lot of business, so people are still willing to shell out the $$ here.

Also, I'd join your local chamber of commerce, as they'll have information on upcoming fairs and festivals. If you can get into a festival (Renaissance fairs, Labor Day festivals and Octoberfest/Holiday craft fair/festivals are right now or coming up soon), I think you could make some nice cash. I've seen it done at our local rinky dink Labor Daze festival back home, and lines of kids waiting to get it done. If you do get into a festival, I'd find a couple others with equal talent to work with you so you can have a quick turnover of clients.

Practice on your kids - and the neighborhood kids! - and make up some nice posters of the different face paintings available for people to choose from. Charge reasonably, but don't be too stingy - people coming to fairs, festivals usually are doing it as a treat and most will be apt to give in and let their child get something special.

Good luck! I think you could do well with it!

Geesh, now you're making me wish I was talented and could do this!
