Okay WOW, he got lucky!

He just called me and told me that the bank DID catch it as fraudlent. He went to the bank today to check on the funds and the bank manager took him aside and explained it all to him. They DID take out $8 for having to return the check, BUT, thats peanuts when you compare it to $4000. He is also he is very glad that he waited and that the bank was able to catch this right away. They did explain to him that sometimes they DO cash the check and sometimes it takes months before they realize its fruadulent.

He got VERY lucky. Thanks for all the help!!!

OH ETA: It wasn't GapBuster Worldwide, THATS the legit company. This is Gapbuster INC. So obvioulsy they did that on purpose so that if you DID google the company, you would find the legit company and think you were doing business with them. Not getting taken for Thousands of $$.

Oh I can't tell you the number of times I saw this when I worked as a bank teller, it is refered to as the "nigerian check scheme". You NEVER EVER EVER deposit a check, and then send certified funds from that check back to someone. We always put holds on suspicious checks like that. It is amazing how many people fall for that scam. If it is too good to be true, then it is a scam!
