Okay, I have an idea. My husband is in the military and we live on a ridiculously small base. There are about 500 Marines stationed here, and we are lumped on a base with Army and Navy recruiters and others. Since the community is so small, there isn't really any unity, as there are no services available to these families. So, everybody just does their own thing. Anyway, I want to start a website that has ideas, tips, and suggestions for things from family activities, activities with the kids, preparing for Daddy or Mommy's return from deployment to shopping and bargain hunting. I think a lot of people forget about the military spouse and I want to start a networking site so people can meet and bounce ideas off of one another. I have this vision that people on the larger bases will meet people that they never knew were there. I am thinking calendars for different duty stations with play groups, etc. I am thinking a Money Saving link for tips on grocery shopping, holiday shopping, etc. Tips on taking advantage of the WONDERFUL benefits that the military has to offer. FOR EXAMPLE, did you know that after you have been in for 15 years, the Marine Corps will offer you $30,000, lump sum? There are some tradeoffs, but nobody really knows about this!!!! I have all of these ideas that I know will be useful to MIlitary families, but......

I do not know how to put together a website. I do not know how to get people to advertise on the site. And I do not know how to go about getting word about about the site. Ideas!? Please!?

Consider starting a blog. Try blogspot. I believe they provide a webpage that you can add as a link. Many internet providers offer one free webpage, too. A blog would let others respond to your posts and ask questions, too.

that is an awesome idea! DH and I actually were talking about doing something similar just in regards to our nearby towns but we never went through with it! I agree with the blogspot too, but you can also google and find some websites where you can make a site for little or no cost by having the site name in your website. (ie: homestead.com/yoursitename ) good luck!! i bet everyone will be so thankful you did this -- and who knows, maybe they'll branch out and you'll network among cities with people taking up the reigns and doing the same elsewhere!
