I don't really have a strategy...I try to do it as it accumulates, so that usually comes down to about 1 load per day for me (except for the day I change all the sheets, then I do all the bedding the same day in about 3 loads). So I just go around in the morning and see what I've got...do I have enough for a 'blue' load? If yes, then I go ahead and run it through.

I do non-linen laundry based on color and fabric...

I do a load of whites and a load of everything else. As far as strategy goes, ours goes into two baskets so it's already sorted, I just have to sort M's. Saves me some time.

I have one of those 3 bin laundry sorter w/ wheels and we keep it in our closet (my MIL keeps hers in her laundry room, so that's an option too). I sort clothes: whites/towels (use bleach) / lights (lots of khaki pants here!) / darks / dark work clothes / sheets. The kids clothing goes in with the adult's here but I seperate DH's work clothes bc. he's in construction and they can be pretty dirty. I generally do a load every day - wash before work and dry either before or after. Then on the weekend, I do sheets and catch up with an extra load or two plus ironing. I don't assign a particular color a day, like whites on Mondays, rather just do as needed. I found that with 2 kids, I really need to do one load a day or I get way behind.

whites and lights together, darks and brights together, everything washed in cold water, wash as much as possible at a time
