I live in the Texas Gulf Coast region and am thinking of planting knock-out roses. They seem really pretty on the internet. Does anyone have any experience with them and would you recommend them?

They remind me of my grandmothers roses.

Every year I buy one for my bosses birthday. He is 75 and loves his roses.

So last year when I went to buy him two for his birthday, I decided to buy me two. I love them.

I forgot to cut them back for the winter, but no worry they came back bigger and better than last season.

I would recommend these highly.

Knockout roses are one of the newest on the market. They are around 7ish years old. They come in red knockout, double red, double pink, blush, and now some nurseries are starting to carry yellow. The difference in the single bloom and the double is the flower. The double is more pretty as it has more petals in it and it looks more like a traditional rose.
Knockouts are disease resistant, bloom from spring till frost, and don't require deadheading to promote more blooms (but if you do you'll get that much more faster). They average 6 ft tall by 4ft wide at full maturity. Most of my customers keep them cut down smaller. They prefer full sun and well drained soil.
In the 4 years I've worked in a garden nursery I've never had any trouble with them nor have my customers have any problems. If you've never grown roses before this would be an excellent one to start with.

I forgot to add that I always buy mine at Lowes.

That way if something happens, within a year and you keep your receipt they will give you a full refund.

These sound great. Are they just for southern states? I live in IN.

I'm not sure about other parts of the country, aliadam, but I live in GA and these plants are darn near indestructable! They just bloom and bloom and bloom.

Yes, you should call around. They are so hardy that they are planted in medians and highways and stuff around here. They really do look pretty when they are blooming.

The knockouts are zone 4-9. The local nursery staff would know more about the specific climate for your area. I'm zone 7 here so you should be safe there.
