What do you do with the extra buttons that come with some shirts, coats etc? Toss them? Lose them? Label them and store them in neatly organized containers separated by color?

They go into the button box and then are used for projects.

I have an antique fruit jar, with a metal screw on lid, that all of the buttons go in. It sets on my sewing machine table.

Right now all my scrapbooking buttons are in a vinyl bag. When I have extras like that or even when I have an article of clothing that cannot be donated or saved I will take the buttons off of them and throw them in with my scrapbook buttons.

I save them in my bag 'o buttons (seriously, I have one! lol) and use them to adorn purses, bags, etc, or to fix things that need a button. My B'OB is kept with the rest of my sewing stuff. My 2 y/o dd requires a new bag every time I make a purse (otherwise she'll REALLY want the purse and that's a fight I can avoid by running up a quick little kids size tote), and I put little buttons on them sometimes. Of course, I all but cement the button to the bag, and it gets taken off at the first sign of loosening.
